Install month at Leeward House. Opening July 1 in Thornbury ⛵️

A working journal from Thornbury as the custom millwork and furniture for Leeward House moved from the shop to site and into place.

Large pieces came in through upper windows. Headboards were set. Bunk details, vanities, counters, shelving, panel work, rails, reveals, and built-ins were fitted room by room. The lobby got benches, and curved counters with patchwork veneer and layered bullnose edges.

Grandmillennial, heritage-core, maximalist, traditional with a wink. Whatever you call it, the millwork had to carry the room, not disappear into it.

As featured in Architectural Digest, the Glengrove Project is a comprehensive Hamilton Holmes millwork commission for a Toronto home deeply committed to pattern, colour, ornament, and character.

Every cabinet, panel, stool, and detail was custom built and site installed by our studio, forming the architectural foundation for a kitchen where nothing is quiet, but everything is considered.

Natural wood cabinetry, a burgundy island, copper countertop, scalloped counter stools, Calacatta Monet stone, brass fixtures, plaid drapery, and the largest hood we’ve ever produced all work together in a richly layered maximalist language.

Grandmillennial, heritage-core, traditional with a wink. Whatever you call it, the millwork had to hold its own.

Expressive Nero Marquina marble, held by the quiet strength of the Captain’s Table and softened by hand-woven Danish cord.

This is a special-edition version of our 30” Captain’s Table, with a polished Nero Marquina marble top, black ombré white oak legs, and a hand-woven Danish cord shelf.

The marble, from Northern Spain, has a lot of caramel brown running through it, along with striking white veining against the black stone. It works beautifully with the warmth of the oak and the texture of the cord.

The table is built in the same tried-and-true Captain’s Table construction, with a triangular base and traditional pinned mortise-and-tenon joinery.

This isn’t a painted table.

It’s a one-of-one artwork that happens to be a table.

The 42-inch OXALINO Hurricane Table is built from a spiral grid and wave formations that move across every visible wooden surface. The top. The underside. The legs. The rails.
Each brushstroke is made with an oxidizing solution on tannin-rich white oak, creating a chemical reaction within the wood itself. The pattern is not simply applied to the surface. It is drawn out of the material.

The ritual concludes with a veil of whitened oil, revealing the natural grain and creating a delicate moiré effect between the painted pattern, the wood fibre, and the movement of light.
The form is based on our Captain’s Table, built in solid white oak with traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery, wooden pins, and a hand-lashed veg-tan leather shelf below.

OXALINO began in 2020 as a spiral decoration painted by hand onto tubular forms. Since then, it has evolved into a larger study of pattern, ornament, chemistry, and form.

The Hurricane pattern is its newest expression: a geometric storm of negative space, movement, and hand-painted linework.

Furniture, but not only furniture.
Sculpture, surface, and story intertwined.

A stoic oak cabinet with an ethereal glow.

For Simcoe House, we built a pair of eight-foot-tall glass-front cabinets in blackened white oak, softened by convex reeded glass and warm antique oak interiors.

Designed for a Victorian home in Hamilton with soaring 10-foot ceilings, the cabinets bring quiet strength, proportion, and softness into the room.

Every edge is gently rounded, allowing the side gables to flow seamlessly into the front doors. The crown follows the same curved profile with a subtle lip, while the base mirrors this language through an arched detail that carries the form downward, creating continuity from top to foot.

The doors feature narrow convex reeded glass, which behaves differently than flat glass. Its scalloped surface catches and diffuses light, softening the presence of an eight-foot solid oak cabinet while giving it a quiet internal glow.

“The challenge was making something eight feet tall feel grounded, but not heavy. The reeded glass, softened profiles, and warm interior finish gave the cabinets their balance.”

American black walnut with bookmatched grain and twin crown arches defines this stoic bookshelf. Now settled in a historic Hamilton century home near the waterfront.

Placed beside an original lunette-style stained-glass transom, the bookshelf was designed to feel quietly architectural, as though it had always belonged in the room.

Sculpted stiles, softened radiused edges, closed lower storage, twin crown arches, and carefully balanced negative space give the bookshelf its rhythm, proportion, and quiet permanence.

NYC RECAPP… 🍎 .dudd

This year I travelled to the city with to explore and reenergize our design spirits. Krista and I love the city so much and always take the excuse to explore. This year I was reminded how many great friends that I’ve made over the years, and how valuable it is to see them and talk about our projects and ideas and businesses.

Community is such an important piece of the puzzle. We were also inspired by all the beautiful things our friends made, and also by all the beautiful furniture in galleries and showrooms. When you see the top tier of your craft it’s inspirational.

Looking forward to the next trip, but for now we have work to do!
