A rich tapestry of grandmillennial maximalism, where archways, scalloped millwork, and layered patterning speak to both heritage and modern storytelling.

The built-in cabinetry behind the desk lends the room a strong architectural presence.

Arched niches with scalloped tops, framed by slim fluted columns, create a sense of formality and rhythm, while brass picture lights above each arch add warmth and a soft focus to the shelves. Below, woven-panel details introduce texture and craftsmanship without overpowering the design.

We wanted the millwork to feel rich and layered, but still relaxed enough to belong in a space meant to be lived in, not just admired.

The room as a whole is built through layers of detail that play off one another — from the intricate patterned wallpaper that wraps the walls in warmth, to the geometric tiled floor that adds movement underfoot. Every material, every finish, every curve is doing a little quiet work to make the room feel storied and timeless.

This lobby, in the heart of Thornbury on Georgian Bay, is almost ready for check in. ⛵️

At in Thornbury, Ontario, the lobby takes shape through custom reception and bar millwork built by Hamilton Holmes.

Curved counters.
Patchwork veneer fronts.
Layered bullnose edges.
Custom bar cabinets and shelving.
A sculptural canopy chandelier overhead, softening the room and giving the lobby its sense of occasion.

The language is influenced by Streamline and Art Deco: rounded forms, softened corners, horizontal lines, and a quiet sense of movement through the room.

Designed by Keri Maclellan , Leeward House brings boutique hospitality to Georgian Bay with a lobby made for welcome, gathering, and the first drink of the stay.

Opening this summer in Thornbury, Georgian Bay. ⛵️

A contemporary design object with “Big Human Energy.”

Our special edition OXALINO™ FAT COWBOY Table, shown at The Family Show for during New York Design Week 2025.

Featured in / ’s story “Tattooed Furniture Is Having a Moment,” where writer Diana Budds traces OXALINO™ back to Nicholas Holmes’ interest in tattoo artists and hand-adorned surfaces.

“On tannin-rich wood, he paints a decorative pattern with an oxidizing solution… then applies an oil to bring out the natural grain.”

The article notes that during NYCxDESIGN 2025, Hamilton Holmes contributed this table to Love House’s Family Show, with the wood grain accentuated in OXALINO™.

As Nicholas says in the piece: “The greater furniture market can be so stagnant with what is generally appreciated, and we wanted to push beyond that into something that carried ‘Big Human Energy’ in the form of hand-painting.”

Shown here alongside The Mother Lamp by our brilliant friends , inside Love House’s red-floored Manhattan exhibition.

This week, we returned to New York for Design Week 2026 with Dudd Haus and for Dudd Lite, an exhibition of artist-made nightlights installed throughout The Future Perfect’s West Village townhouse.
