Tip of the day, for those who like to reuse their glue bottles. A quick and easy way to ensure a clean bottle before adding new glue.
Hot water plus gravel screenings will clean out all those hard to reach places on the inside of the bottle. The woodworker’s shake weight

It’s the little details that really matter, super pleased with how this idea turned out. Stay tuned to see the unveiling of the newest dining table “The BIG Philly”!

Lights, camera, demo!
Another great demo in the books for the kawartha woodturner’s guild in Peterborough. The topic was on “Taming the skew” with the final project being a spindle replication.
Can’t wait for the next demo, with hopefully less snow to drive home through!
Dm me for demonstration or lesson inquiries.

I’m feeling really good after finishing this large winged bowl today. It started out as a rough turned piece from another woodturner from 2004 that I acquired in 2023. I believe the wood is Elm or something odd. Finished the wings to around 1/4 thick with a nice ogee detail in the middle which really pops with the live edge contrast.
Stay tuned to see it once it’s oiled and polished.

I hope the little video series’s works out well. This isn’t a tutorial in anyway it’s just a video of me working through a problem and sharing my experiences while replacing the brake on my SawStop table saw. This incident happened a few months back while working on a little project. As you can hear from my video description it seemed like a random cause that tripped up the brake system.
After the video I did reach out to and after talking on the phone with a tech I mailed out the broken brake to have it analyzed at the factory. The breaks actually record some data to show if it was a machine error or a user error basically what caused it to trip. Pretty cool bit of tech, and the staff were super helpful and easy to talk with.
Again when problems like this arise it’s definitely frustrating and a drag to deal with. But for that one time the system did save one of my fingers I will support this technology all day everyday for that reason. Worth every dollar.
Hope you found something useful from these video! Drop me a line if you have any thoughts or comments I’m always happy to talk and learn.

Throwback to these massive posts I turned back in the summer, loading and unloading them without another person was pretty tricky but I figured out a nice way to manage it. They were almost 9’ long and 6”x6” across.

Little sneak peak into my world
This task of tapering the spindle down involves using two tools, the spindle roughing gouge and the skew chisel.
The roughing gouge is used to remove the bulk of the material and reveal the rough shape. Then I follow through with my skew chisel to refine the shape and leave it with a silky smooth finish. Very light hand pressure is needed for the task to avoid causing vibrations “chatter” which can damage the surface of the workpiece.
That’s also why you will see me supporting the spinning workpiece with my none dominant hand to pull against the spindle as my tools push against it. This can be very hot and uncomfortable on the hand causing friction burns from time to time but it’s necessary for a clean finish.
If I’m not using my hand to support a long piece I will usually use another steady rest such as the “orange wheeled” device you see in the video.

Hey everyone! Got a new piece finished up and wanted to talk with you all about it.
I want to start talking on a more personal human level.
I think it’s something we can all relate to more than the glamour and shine of things always looking like it’s working out through the lens of social media. Cause let’s be real, it doesn’t always.
I want to start talking more about my thoughts and feelings as create a new work, while making a life for myself through what I enjoy doing. As much as it truly can stress me out at the best of times. But what’s life without some hiccups and stress once in a while.
So if you want to hear me talk more about woodworking, life and everything in between please stick around and follow along on my journey to a destination that changes everyday.
Update on my hand from last weeks injury, I’m doing really good now, still sore and will take sometime for the nail to grow back but I have plenty of time 👍
The bowl is now back in a paper bag relaxing for a few months before it will be time to sand and finish, we’ve been on a hell of an adventure so far but I can’t wait to see it finished!
