Nothing quite like the contrast of fresh toolpaths on dark walnut. 🪵✨
Just letting the NEMA 23s do their thing on this small sign project. To maximize the fine details on this piece, I’m running bits as small as a 0.8mm spiral bit. It takes a little extra patience, but watching it clear out those ultra-tight corners without any tear-out is worth every second.

Throwing it back to last fall when this beautiful harvest table came into the shop for a major transformation.
Our clients were moving into a new home and needed the table shortened by 2 feet to perfectly fit their new space, along with a few minor repairs before getting a fresh finish. But once we got it on the bench, we found the real challenge: the original makers had only finished the top surface. Because the underside was left raw, the wood breathed unevenly, causing the massive top to bow over a 1/2" out of flat.
To save it, we had to get creative:
The Strip Down: We took it right back to bare wood to see exactly what we were working with.
Tricks of the Trade: We used a few old-school flattening techniques to coax that bow out and get the top dead flat again.
The Cut Down: Cleaned up the ends and precisely took 2 feet off the length to match the new floor plan.
Future-Proofing: After restaining, we sealed every single side of the wood using ML Campbell’s Arroyo waterborne topcoat. Locking out moisture on all faces means this heirloom isn't moving anywhere anytime soon.
It’s always satisfying to not just make a piece look good, but to fix the structural engineering so it lasts for generations.

Precision in progress! 🪵⚙️ Watching the CNC do its thing is pure therapy. There is nothing quite like hitting start and watching the chips fly as a clean design takes shape right before your eyes. 🛠️✨

Completing the set.

Last year, I built a custom live edge epoxy river table. This year, the matching seating is officially finished.
To anchor the room, I built these custom chairs using a bold, black stained oak framework designed specifically to match the table’s black oak base. To pull the character of the tabletop down into the seating, I contrasted that dark frame with hand-selected wormy, live edge maple back splats. The whole piece is finished with rich leather upholstered seats for warmth, comfort, and longevity.

Remember the massive 12-foot firehall table we were machining yesterday? Now that the main pocket is ready, the real precision work begins.
As you can see, we’ve officially kicked off the inlay process. This is pour 1 of 6. Because this custom logo features several different colors, we have to clear, pour, and let the epoxy cure in-between CNC cuts to fully build out the detailed design layer by layer.
Trust the process. 5 more rounds of cutting and pouring to go before we can flatten it all back down and reveal the final emblem!

Prepping the CNC pocket on this hickory firehall build. 🪵🔥
The step you see here isn't just for show. Before the black epoxy base pour goes in, a thorough seal coat is applied to the raw wood. Hickory's grain loves to drink up liquids, and if you don't block it off, the black pigment will bleed right past your carve lines.
Taking the extra time now for razor-sharp results later. Stay tuned for the pour!

Big projects require big precision. 🎯
Watch our CNC carve a 24" Ă— 24" logo into the absolute center of a 12-foot firehall table. This piece is going to have a lot of history made around it, so we had to make sure the centerpiece was perfect.

The Pour. 🪵✨
Following up on yesterday’s post, here is a look at the deep pour for this wormy maple hutch top.
We locked in that incredible character using 9 litres of Nerpa Polymers resin, dialed in with Black Diamond Pigments in 'Medieval Copper'. The depth and metallic swirl in this light are exactly what we were aiming for.
As you can see in the first photo, the form is sealed, weighted, and the deep pour is officially locked in. Now we let the chemistry do its thing before we hit the flattening mill.

The Calm Before the Pour!

​Forms are prepped, sealed, and locked down. Tomorrow, the real magic happens.

​We’ve got two incredible projects lined up for a massive pour day:

​The Hutch Top: A gorgeous, long section of wormy maple featuring a deep, dramatic natural river channel, perfectly framed and taped.

​The End Table: A beautiful slab of Ambrosia maple with incredible character and a deep central split just begging to be filled.

​Both of these are getting filled tomorrow with Nerpa Polymers resin tinted with Black Diamond Pigments "Medieval Copper." The contrast between that rich, metallic copper and the natural tones of the maple is going to be unreal.
