I was honoured to restore this heirloom cedar chest. It was a gift to my client's grandmother, from her great-grandmother - it's about 130 years old, made in Ontario by the Honderich Furniture Company.

The client wanted the piece brought back to its original condition. The legs had broken off, the top planks were gapping and bowed, and sections of decorative trim were missing. I gave this well-loved beauty a full overhaul, rebuilding the lid, sanding down to bare walnut grain, making a mold to replicate missing trim pieces, and carefully preserving original hand-painted florals.

I hope this piece in its new form will be enjoyed for decades to come. Thank you for trusting me with it, Kelly!

Check out this sophisticated update to a vintage pedestal table!

🌲 We started by removing all of the old orangey finish from using our carbide scraper. The pine wood underneath was very soft, so we had to do a lot of hand sanding to reshape and even out the surface.

🖌️ Next, we used water-based pre-stain to condition the wood & prevent uneven staining. Finally, we applied multiple coats of one-step wood stain & varnish, and sealed with natural Stain & Finishing Oil.

✨ Finally, we went sanded with Fusion's h**p oil for a buttery smooth finish!

AVAILABLE: Mid-Century Ming Table Set!

Set of four solid wood, mid-century Ming tables. This style was traditionally produced by the Baker American vintage furniture company.

The table legs are curved & carved in a Chinese manner, with stylized grooves along the sides. Matched burl veneer on each tabletop adds additional rich detail. A great way to add a minimalist design touch or elegant vintage element to your home!

This complete set includes a large, square coffee table, 2 square side tables, and a long rectangular hall/console table. Each features faceted, smoked glass panes that are easily removable for cleaning & transport.

Some age-appropriate wear on varnish in a few places.

This piece went through quite the transformation! The brass plating on the feet was completely rusted away, and we had to remove the rubber edge banding, which was starting to decay (see the white foxing? 😬)
We added recycled vintage maps using the UltraGrip decoupage method by , Fusion paint in Lichen and a whitewash with Raw Silk, multiple coats of Fusion's stain & finishing oil, & gilding wax to shine up the feet & brackets.
This stylish piece found a new home this week - thanks so much for your support, Joanna!
