Why we don't just "fill" cracks—we stabilize them. 🧪🛡️

When you see a deep crack in a live edge slab, that’s not a flaw—it’s an opportunity. But if you just pour epoxy in and walk away, that wood is going to move and eventually reject the fill. Stabilization is the difference between a table that lasts 2 years and one that lasts 100.

Jake started with us years ago as a passionate 17 year old, giving him valuable experience working as a furniture maker, and a constant source of wood to turn on the weekends. Jake is now the shop foreman and a co-owner.

Donna Shaw is one of the first women on BC Wood's board of directors. Originally from the South coast of the UK where the nearest forest was a 45 minute drive away, landing in a forest on Vancouver Island where alder saplings were being harvested to make luxury furniture. This was the beginning of a love affair with wooden furniture design. 20 years on and Donna continues to solve design problems either wooden furniture design through creativity, persistence and a commitment to quality as the CEO of Live Edge Design.

Being on the board at BC Wood Specialties Group and working with Donna hopes to show the importance of the forestry industry in our Province by showing how much value can be created when we turn wood into art.
