The DRFC float fly, scheduled for tomorrow 30 May, has been cancelled due to high winds forecast, replacement date and time to be announced, possibly an impromptu call during the week.

We did an impromptu float flying gathering, on Monday, great weather and great crowd, the pictures talk for themselves, but it was a great start for the season!

The season is about to start, we can not wait for the ice to be gone from the bay! Our first event this year is scheduled to be on 25 April in the afternoon, hoping for good weather and reasonable water level!

We are waiting to see how the waterfront development by the town of Deseronto will affect how we approach the site, as we might have to adapt how we park and approach the flying site.

Again this year, we will be equipped with a trainer plane of float and buddy box, either to have people try their hands at RC, or to help with those who have their wings do the conversion to float flying.

The membership fee for this year is again a whopping $20.00 payable on site only. This money goes for the boat maintenance and storage, BBQ stove and propane.

See you soon!

We have concluded our 8th flying season that saw a very soggy start that ended in drought conditions with very low water. Our little club continues to draw pilots and their families who like to have fun in a relaxed atmosphere with a great view.
The end of the season originally was suppose to be a lunch with the "execs" to discuss the season and upcoming changes for 2026. It ended up being more of an informal lunch with spouses and a few more guys than the execs and was quite popular.
We are planning on a spring lunch for all members to meet after a long winter and talk about the upcoming season. Stay tuned for date, time and location, likely late March/early April.
Regarding this year, we got a new BBQ which worked great over the summer, our problems with oarlocks are solved, we had the most new members ever join in one season, our Buddy Box is getting lots of use and some of Kingston's student pilots have made the transition to float flying under the guidance of their CFI Rene. Our club hods monthly events from
April until October (Halloween bash) targeting the last Saturday of the month. Next year, the Town of Deseronto is expanding it's waterfront trail over to our site. We will now have a path, with chairs and picnic tables around our site which is great for our events but the trade off is restricted vehicular access to the pit area, so an alternative means of transporting airplanes and club equipment to the site but RC hobbyists are a pretty resourceful group of people and we will come up with a viable solution.
Until the 2026 flying season, may you all have a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and here's to another year of fun float flying off the Bay of Quinte in Deseronto.

This post is well overdue regarding our final event of the 2026 DRFC flying season!
It was our annual Halloween Fun Fly and for our second event, we held in the afternoon rather than morning. Temperatures were more tolerable than the early mornings in late October. As you can see, some of the pilots and support crews were dressed up for the event.
Weather was typical fall, overcast and winds were a little gusty but overall a great day for flying. We had a few rescues of aircraft on the water and one rescue crew learned about properly operating a row boat (first timer).
As usual, Rene helped with the set up and had a few people trying out the buddy box system and actually took control of the aircraft once a couple of mistakes high.
Ang did her fantastic job BBQing, taking care of setting up all the snacks and other treats. Everyone loves our BBQs!
Nathalie is our event administrator taking care of registration and our draws.
Both Ang and Nathalie are the club photographers as well.
It was a great year despite a soggy start that turned into a drought! A lot of flying was done by a lot of pilots and we saw new members join this year! We purchased a new BBQ this year as the old one had seem much better days and finally solved our oarlock issues.
A new challenge next year is restricted access to our site due to the extension of the waterfront trail so we will have to figure out means to transport aircraft and equipment to our pit area. However, we are a resourceful group although getting up there in age! See you next year!

Wow! Our first every afternoon float fly, rather than the traditional morning slot, was a huge success as you can see by the photos!!
Rene, Nathalie, Ang and myself got down early to set up for the event. It was supposed to start at 15:30 with the pilot safety brief but a few of use regulars who showed up early couldn't wait and put planes in the air.
The weather was mostly cloudy with some sun mixed in around 18:00. Winds were variable speeds but predominantly from the south. We had 14 registered pilots plus an underaged graduate of the Wings program ran by the Kingston RC club. Ryan did very well first time flying off water once Rene, his instructor pilot, briefed him on the intricacies of float flying.
This event marked the most flights in one day although we didn't formally count them. We had several instances of our max of 5 pilots in the air at once, while other pilots were on standby waiting for aircraft to land.
Ang handed the BBQ duties along with photography and Nathalie as always is our administrative guru taking care of registration, food orders and another photographer. The BBQ was amazing with several people supplying desert, home made cookies and other snacks which makes these events so special. This has got to be one of the most laid-back and friendly clubs I've ever had the pleasure of being a member of.
Our last event is on October 25th and again, we will be switching from a morning event to an afternoon. Update will be on the MAAC events calendar plus on this page in near future.
Don't forget your costumes for our next event!

Another wonderful morning, even if the winds were strong we had a great time. We had 10 registered pilots and we didn’t get to use the boat. Jamie was the chef today.
