✨ How to take that outdated orange oak wood to a timeless and modern fresh slate ✨
1. Strip your piece to remove as much of the old varnish that you can. Use scraper tools or scrubby brushes to really get in all of those crevices and large wood grains.
2. Neutralize with mineral spirits to help break up any of that stripper gunk or wax residue etc.
3. Go in with Acetone to further remove any stubborn finish.
4. Sand your life away 😂 Make sure to work up the grits to ensure a smooth and scratch free surface. This will also allow even absorption of stain or paint wash.
5. Apply a green paint wash to cancel any orange or red tones in the wood. It won't look like much at first, but once it dries, that’s when the real magic happens!
6. Follow-up with whatever paint wash you want as your main color tone (tan, white, brown, etc). You can't go wrong! You can always build up your washes by diluting with more water and applying more layers if need be.
