A recently completed commission, this 11 drawer Art Deco dresser, was truly the job of a lifetime. Working closely with our client, Mary, we created this piece which has 6 drawers for clothing storage and 5 (velvet lined) ones for jewelry. All of the drawers hang on the full-extension wooden slides that Karen wrote about 22 years ago in Fine Woodworking magazine (issue 117)

The wavy Western Maple veneer was matched around each end right through all 11 drawers and the whole piece was topped off with a black (dyed Swiss pear) and white (bleached mahogany) floral bouquet as a tribute to Art Deco master, J.E. Ruhlmann.

We just completed and delivered our latest project - a speaking podium for Crofton House Girls school in Vancouver. The job was sent our way by our friends and customers, Richard and Christine of Shick, Shiner & Associates who oversaw the renovation of the auditorium at the school. The podium had to be made to roll on and off stage, have a built-in LED lighting strip on a dimmer switch, and house a "Crestron" touch screen. The finish also had to match the millwork in the auditorium, so we spent a few hours of experimentation to get the colour just right. All in all a really challenging but fun job.

It has been a busy fall, lots has been going on in the shop and a big one was completing our pieces for the One Tree II exhibition that has just opened at the Bateman Gallery in Victoria. This Saturday is a meet the artisan day at the gallery with 1/2 price admission so come on down and meet us! We will be in attendance from 10 to 1.

A few weeks ago, I ran into my old woodworking friend Colin Knecht at, of all places, the Home Depot parking lot, in Duncan and between the two of us we arranged for him to come over for a visit and see the our shop.
