I am sharing a very meaningful experience for my family and I. Enjoy!

On January 30, I was contacted through Ancestry by a gentleman researching the 160th Overseas Battalion (Bruce Battalion). He shared that a colleague had been safeguarding a package of personal belongings belonging to my Great Uncle, Edward Zimmerman. They had been searching for family members for quite some time in hopes of returning these items to where they truly belong.

On February 20, those incredibly meaningful belongings were finally repatriated to our family. It was a deeply moving and unforgettable day—one that connected past and present in the most profound way.

I feel especially fortunate to have known Great Uncle Ed personally. I have such fond memories of spending time with him and his wife, Ruth, at their home in Petrolia getting rides on his kid sized ride on train in the backyard. Together, they owned a local store, and Ed also served the community with great pride as Fire Chief for many years.

To now hold a piece of his history, returned after so long, is something I will never take for granted. It is a powerful reminder of service, family, and the enduring importance of remembering those who came before us. 🇨🇦❤️

Look at the absolutely stunning grain in Douglas Fir—it’s incredible. Working on pieces clearly crafted by master artisans, carefully removing the original dark finish to reveal nature’s unique beauty, is truly rewarding.
I love losing myself in the work. As the aroma of fir resin rises from the surface beneath my hands, it creates a powerful connection to the past. I genuinely love what I do. While it’s a labour-intensive, time-consuming, muscle-building job, it gives me the privilege of working with so many wonderful clients. My clients’ vision is my motivation.

This year will be marking my 13th year owning and operating Riverside Refinishing. My Dad started the business back in 1989, and entrusted his hard work, dedication, and clientele to me. I continue to strive to make him proud, and exceed my client's expectations.

Santa🎅 told me that Yeti🐕 was on the nice list this year. However, this morning, Yeti advised me it was just "lack of opportunity " so he decided to double down for the day!!!😃😃

My last few months have been very very busy and I really like to focus my energy on my job rather than posting, so apologies for the absence of work related posts!
Today however is a very important day in my life.....

When I think of Christmas, it makes my heart sing. I have always loved the Christmas season, and even more so 17 years ago today! On December 20th, 2008, packed in between huge winter storms, we said our vows in a candlelight ceremony, with all those individuals that have shared in our lives, and are important to us. These years have truly flown by, which is good and bad. Good, that that length of time with another individual has gone so effortlessly, and bad, because if I had a choice I would spend 1000 years with you Greg. Thank you for being my greatest love, my very best friend, and my partner on this journey we made the choice to take together. 24 years together, 17 of those married! I am so proud of this life we made together, Happy Anniversary, Sweetheart!!!❤️❤️❤️

Unfortunately my little cousin Haley was one of the fatalities. If you could find it in your heart to help support not only Haley's family, but the other children's families too, I know it would help tremendously as they navigate this absolutely devastating and tragic time. 💙 Let's give them comfort that they can grieve without worry.
