Ever look at a professional planter and wonder how they make it look so balanced and full? While there's a few ways to design a planter, there's an easy formula you can follow to get started: Thriller, Filler, and Spiller! Save this post for when you're in buying plants!
🪴 Thriller – This is your tall, eye-catching focal point that adds instant drama and height.
🪴 Filler – These are mounding plants that sit at the base of your thriller, filling out the middle so the pot looks dense and lush.
🪴 Spiller - These are trailing plants that tumble right over the edge, softening the rim of your pot and anchoring the whole look.
Bonus Planter Ideas:
☀️ The Sunny Planter: Think popping blooms like Geranium, Petunia, Lantana, & Silver Falls to drape down the side.
🌲 The Perennial Planter: Think outside the box and plant perennials! Just remember that Perennials planted in a pot will only last the season. Try Echinacea, Cranesbill, Yarrow, & Sedum together.
🍂 The Foliage Planter: Trending due to their popping colour and lack of deadheading maintenance. Coleus, Caladium, Coral Bells, & Sweet Potato Vine
☁️ The Shady Planter: You can grow in shade! Think Begonia, Coleus, Impatiens, & Sweet Potato Vine
🍕 The Herb Planter: Grow fresh kitchen faves or gift a friend! Think Italiano with Basil, Rosemary, Sage, Thyme, & Parsley.
🌴 The Tropical Planter: so underrated! Much like the Perennial planter, this will only last the season unless brought Inside before winter. Try Croton, Calathea, Pothos, & Caladium.
