Hello Cash Mob followers!

The original intent here was to support restaurants during the shut downs. But now, even with in-house dining possible again, I am noticing the page is still getting regular visits.

Any thoughts or suggestions for how we might make this concept live on? Is there an “appetite” to keep it going? (Yeah, I did that. Appetite.)

Last week was coffee, this week is also about indulgence…

𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝐒𝐔𝐆𝐀𝐑 𝐑𝐔𝐒𝐇 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸!�
As we hurry towards the Easter weekend, now is a great time to consider WHERE we are sourcing our treats. Calgary has MANY independent candy shops some featuring their own talented chocolatiers and confectioners.

Rather than quadrant specific businesses, this week we are looking at the variety of businesses Calgary has to offer:�

Volio's Confections
This little shop creates the most amazing hand-made hard candy and sponge toffee! This little shop opened in Dec 2019 RIGHT before the pandemic hit, but still has managed to not only hang in there but also grow a following! Volio’s got several nominations for this challenge.

cōchu chocolatier
While this local maker has built a brand based on very sophisticated-looking chocolate, they also know how to turn out a great looking bunny! Or if you prefer, a hippo. Or bon bons. Or… Just go look! So many options.

The Chocolate Lab
This little shop must be seen to be fully appreciated. Their designer eggs are literal works of art! Or perhaps a praline-caramel egg? Or ruby raspberry geometric bunny? These treats are a feast for the eyes even before your taste buds get in on it…

The Sugar Cube
This business started out as Calgary’s first mobile candy store. Not surprising that business with a creative location also infuses creativity into their products. Offering more than just the sugary treats, Sugar Cube also creates custom easter baskets, Candy-gram Cubes and even a kit complete with an Easter hunt clues.

And an immense amount of gratitude for those who went to visit the featured businesses! These challenges are, after all, about revenue injections for our favourite Calgary locations.

After a short pause, CASH MOB is back with a helluva challenge.

𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗙𝗘𝗘𝗟 𝗚𝗢𝗢𝗗 𝗖𝗢𝗙𝗙𝗘𝗘 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸!

This is a city that loves its beans. We have some of the best roasters and barristas to rival any world-class city. But more importantly, we have an 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘀 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱.

This week we honour those cafes who have created something extra amazing out of the beans they serve:

𝗡𝗪 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲: Cafe&Mi
This little shop is dedicated to helping customers receive much needed cuddle therapy from its resident felines who are on loan from the AARC (Alberta Animal Rescue Crew). If a connection is made, you get a coffee AND a cat.

𝗡𝗘 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲: Baya Rica Cafe
Thankfully many cafes are taking sourcing seriously and ethical beans are more commonplace today. But Baya Rica takes the matter so seriously that they opted to own the entire process from crop-to-cup. By owning the farmland in Costa Rica, they are able to have a higher degree of control over the environmental, ethical & social issues that plague the larger coffee industry. The end result: great coffee without the societal side effects!

𝗦𝗪 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲: Lil E Coffee Cafe
This is not the first bright, modern and happy cafe to grace the downtown core. But what 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 the cafe bright and happy is. Owner, Paul Constance, has created a space dedicated to providing employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual & developmental disabilities. Not only are they serving coffee with good vibes, they are able to demonstrate clearly these individual's deep capacity for productive and meaningful careers.

𝗦𝗘 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲: Kingdom Coffee YYC

Coffee that warms you right down to the soul. Kingdom owners, Jesse & Steph, use a portion of every bag sold to help people into recovery and find them a place to sleep at night. Inspired by the work of four pastors many years ago to help Jesse’s own father find hope and a future, this duo has carried forward the natural power of coffee as a tool for connection and warmth.

 Literally coffee that warms both the person drinking it AND those in our community who are lacking.

Calgary, let's get our neighbours aware of these four amazing businesses in our midst and help create positive ripple effects for our communities and beyond.

This week is all about rice & noodles. The restaurants are all small establishments with big-hearted owners... according to loyal customers who nominated them.

To make the challenge accessible to the whole city, there's a restaurant in each quadrant.

We went to Mozy Cafe for the challenge this week! Man alive, go forwarned... the wraps are massive so plan to stop eating a good 12 hours in advance to make space for it! All of my kids gave it two thumbs up. There are not many food options on the planet that get three out of three in agreement.
