🌿Custom work, NFS 🌿
Few jobs are more simultaneously exhilarating and nerve wracking than being trusted to refinish a family heirloom or a piece with some serious sentimental value.
There is trust that it won’t be cosmetically changed beyond all recognition, trust that its imperfections will be embraced rather than erased, and trust that it won’t be damaged in any way or destroyed completely.
🌿
This is my best friend’s childhood rocking chair, entrusted to me to be modernized for her young granddaughter to enjoy. Taking it apart to refinish each section separately was a risk because vintage pieces are notoriously finicky about being dismantled and reassembled. It was a risk that was rewarded - I got lucky - this one played nicely with me. 😮‍💨
The little dings, worn edges and charming character that this chair earned in its history of a life well lived with her were painstakingly saved. New ones will be added over time, overlapping stories of happy memories, with lots of love woven into its wood fibres.
🌿
Kristine, it was my absolute pleasure and honour to do this for you…thank you for trusting me.
Emma is one very lucky little girl to have you in her life. 💖

It’s rocking chair month around here! My client brought these fraternal twin solid oak rockers in for a new paint job. One had been painted before and the other had its original dark brown stain mostly intact. One had a badly rotted seat and the other had no seat at all 😂, so I added two new sturdy seat bases that she will have upholstered in whichever fabric she chooses. This pair is going to live their best lives at a cottage, experiencing sunrises, sunsets, cocktails, and soothing grandchildren to sleep.
Thank you Judy! It’s always a pleasure to work with you!

Not my typical dramatic makeover, but they don’t always have to be to look totally different!
This cute antique buffet came in for a colour change from a steely blue grey to a rich indigo that my client requested. I wish that this piece had a makers mark so I could date it more accurately, but I can tell that it’s up there in age by the hand cut dovetail joinery and the type of nails used. It’s full of well loved character, which I carefully preserved. Thank you once again Judy! It’s going to be a great addition to your space!

These are Canadian made, vintage Roxton maple end tables.
Roxton was a high quality furniture manufacturer that operated from 1890 to 2006, using only sustainably sourced Canadian maple and other species for their solid wood pieces. Their maple pieces were so well made and distinctive in their designs that they became, and are still known today as, “Roxton Maple” furniture.
These tables are solid wood from top to bottom, with a second shelf and drawer on each for lots of open and closed storage. Their warm, neutral colour and complimentary light wood tones will fit easily into your existing home decor.
These tables can be put to use in your living room or den, in any bedroom as matching bedside tables, or split them up into separate guest rooms for a consistent, cohesive vibe in each.
No matter which room in your home or cottage they end up in, they’re going to be beautiful and durable for years to come…and a bit of Canadian history will live there too.

🌿Custom work, NFS🌿

These mid century teak veneered tables came to me in excellent structural condition but their 60+ year old surfaces were tired, in spite of my client’s annual spa treatments with oil. This is to be expected from older pieces that are living their lives in daily service for decades to busy families, and can usually be brought back to life with some TLC.
The natural tone of the teak wasn’t fitting in with my client’s current style, so a darker stain colour was added to give them a warm chocolate dark and moody tone vs the orange creamsicle vibe that they had going on.
I absolutely love my client’s colour choice for these beauties, and I rarely come across teak pieces. Thank you for this great project!

This past month I had the honour of refinishing two family heirlooms, a tabletop chime clock that was made in 1945 and a handmade desk. The desk, made of solid mahogany, was lovingly handcrafted by my client’s great grandfather - a gift to his wife so she could write letters to family and friends. While taking this desk apart completely so I could refinish all of its parts more efficiently, I discovered his handwriting hidden in the joinery, a mix of numbers and letters that he had penciled in during the layout stage of the build so he’d know which piece went where when he had to put it all together. (Those markings made my life easier for the rebuild too! 😄)
I left those markings intact, along with some minor dings in the wood as testaments to its history and a life well lived.
These are slightly stressful pieces to work on because family heirlooms can’t be replaced. It’s always a balancing act between making a piece look “too new” while giving the client the look they desire to make the piece work in a modern home…but for these same reasons they’re my very favourite pieces to work on.

It was an absolute privilege to bring these beauties back to life - thank you Kristine for your trust in me and for your wholehearted support in every way. 💜

My friend, neighbour and esthetician extraordinaire Rachel rescued this pair of MCM end tables from the curb awhile back which were very well loved…and spray painted purple from top to bottom. 😬 She brought them to me for a quick makeover to be presentable for her upcoming open house - the paint colour was suggested by her realtor and I had an almost identical match in stock. 🙌🏻
They look so good now with a little glow up in this dark and moody space and the listing photos are amazing!
Thank you .esthetics for letting me do my thing with your stuff once again!

These oak dining tables are absolute troopers. They’re built to last and last they do, as they tend to be handed down through generations of families. They almost always come to me for an update from their 80s orange hue, or in this case, a DIY project that my client wasn’t in love with anymore.
I hit a weather window jackpot in March that allowed me to get this project done before it turned to winter again, so this table is now going home, ready to live its best life for decades more. (I wish I could’ve gotten prettier pictures but the current weather didn’t allow it) 🙄😂.
These tables don’t have to be thrown out…they can be updated and brought into today’s homes just like this one. Get in touch if you have one of these, or any other piece that could use a new look!

Thank you so much for your trust! I hope you create many more family memories around this beauty!

Hi! I’m Laura-Lee, the artist behind this page.
🌿
Furniture art and refinishing never crossed my mind until very recently. After teaching myself to make jewellery over a decade ago, building a successful jewellery business from the ground up and finally, completing an intensive 3-year jewellery and goldsmith program and earning an honours degree at my local college in 2021, I was suffering from extreme burnout. I still needed a creative outlet however, so when I stumbled across some furniture flipping videos, I was hooked! Creative expression on a grand scale is the exact opposite of what I’d been doing under magnifying goggles and loupes for a long time, and it was just the diversion that I needed.
Ironically, I furnished my entire home many years ago with nothing but painted furniture that I found online through various local artists, never imagining that this would become part of my path in the future!
🌿
Having a “jeweller’s eye” brings a higher standard of quality and attention to detail in my work. For me, it’s not about slapping some paint on a piece and pushing it out the door, and it’s definitely not about producing shoddy or careless work under the badly misused term “rustic”. The process and the finished product are equally important to me. I have love for both painted furniture and restoration and I gladly do both, letting each piece speak to me as to which look best suits it.
“They don’t make ‘em like they used to” is true enough - but I have found over the years more often than not that almost any piece can be saved or made more desirable with some imagination and hard work.
🌿
I always share new pieces in my instagram stories before I begin work on them so you have the opportunity to claim for customization. I also post finished work for sale here before listing them publicly for sale, giving you first dibs to purchase. My pieces tend to sell quickly though, so if it’s something you’re in the market for and it’s within your budget, act fast as most of the pieces I work on are one of a kind.
🌿
I welcome custom work! Also, feel free to message me if you see a piece of free furniture out on the curb! They’re my favourite things to work on! 🪑

I couldn’t believe my good fortune when I found these beauties last month. The seller told me that both pieces were purchased by her grandmother when she got married over 98 years ago, then they were passed to her mother, then to her, then to her daughter. The buck paused with me when her daughter decided that she didn’t want them anymore. Besides a bit of cosmetic damage, both pieces were in mint condition for their age, solid maple and oak construction with walnut veneer. They were built by the same manufacturer and are a set - fraternal twins if you will - and would make a stunning addition to any room. The paint colour is a bit of a chameleon in that it reads green in bright lighting but gives grey undertones in darker lighting. The hardware is original, the drawers are deep and work perfectly, and these gorgeous twins are ready to go home to a lucky buyer. I will separate them if necessary, but you’ll get a great price if you purchase them together.
Smoke free environment.
All sales are final.
Delivery is available, just ask!

🌿custom work, NFS🌿
This vintage Roxton maple side table is the sibling of the coffee table I refinished for my client last month, and both were sporting the typical-for-its-era orange stain, which I corrected to a beautiful natural finish. IMO all maple furniture should be this colour! I took the entire table apart, stripped, sanded and stained each individual piece including the interior, then applied a hardy topcoat to everything before reassembly. These projects are no easy task and not for a beginner or for the faint hearted - but always worth the effort. This beauty is now ready for another generation to enjoy.
🌿
This is the final week for custom work requests! If you have a piece you’d like to have refinished, you have until October 10 to get in touch!
