“Atelier Piraat is increasingly focused on concealing technical elements, allowing the kitchen to appear almost detached from its functionality.

Van Snick explains: “The search for greater visual calm is, of course, not straightforward. In one stainless steel kitchen, for example, we integrated a network of ventilation ducts to completely conceal the extractor hood. The only visible technical element is a small ventilation grille just above the floor. We apply the same approach when hiding ovens or refrigerators behind cabinet fronts: at the bottom, we provide openings for air intake and extraction. The simpler it needs to look visually, the more complex it becomes behind the scenes.
We also opted for discreet recessed handles, allowing the stainless steel cabinetry to remain as streamlined as possible. The only element that stands out is the blue tap.””

Behind the scenes of a project built high in the mountains. (DEV)

From carrying materials through narrow roads to pouring concrete on site, every detail demanded time, precision and adaptability.

Over the course of 4 trips, we worked through changing seasons, long build days and the realities of creating far from home.
• 2.5 tons of materials transported into the mountains.
• A concrete countertop cast and finished entirely on site.
• 5 weeks of building, assembling and refining surrounded by mountain peaks.

Project VSC in Tielrode is a kitchen designed for everyday life. Clean white fronts, walnut handles, and Spider Gold stone combine with smart spatial moves and a playful island book nook. A sliding curtain in a soft blue niche adds subtle flexibility, making the space both functional and welcoming.

A renovated barn surrounded by mountain peaks.
Natural materials, soft tones and bold simplicity.

For this project, we designed and built an interior fully connected to its landscape. From on-site measurements to final installation, we experienced every season in the mountains — returning 4 times throughout the process.

The concrete countertop was cast and poured on site.
2.5 tons of materials were packed and shipped into the mountains.
5 weeks of building, assembling and refining on location.

A contemporary retreat, built far from home — the Piraat way. 🏴‍☠️

Een hedendaagse retreat, ver van huis gebouwd — the Piraat way. 🏴‍☠️

Project PAU in Ghent is a suspended kitchen system based on the concept of the “pirate wall rack”. Custom metal carcasses are mounted directly onto a wall profile system, creating a modular and floating composition.

Stainless steel elements provide durability and industrial feel, while walnut accents add warmth. Open shelving combines functionality with architetural expression in a compact, flexible design.

Made to live. Bold design at home.

The Piraat stool is a metal stool cut and folded from a single piece, inspired by a pizza slice. Six pieces form a circle, with the slanted legs providing stability and ensuring that the stools do not touch in the center.

Available in various colors, with a seat featuring holes, stripes, or flat, and also in inox, stainless steel, and as a bar stool. Model K1 is a playful, sturdy stool for any space.
