Fauteuil Relict is an easy chair crafted from a 1950s wooden frame taken from the remaining stock of furniture manufacturer . Instead of discarding this outdated frame, Dries chose to give it new life by cutting it apart and reconstructing it into a new design.
The design demonstrates how old furniture can be revalued not only materially but also emotionally through reuse and reinterpretation. The piece bridges past and future by giving traditional (Mechelen) woodcarving craftsmanship a renewed place within a contemporary visual language. The method can be broadly applied to the reuse of other second-hand or vintage furniture pieces.
