First week of real work. Mostly teak chair repairs. This was a good test for the new shop and myself. The shop works fine but needs optimization and some getting used to. I'm a bit rusty myself but have been liberally applying wd40 and am feeling less cranky already.

Now to work!

Wood movement IRL

When wood dries the annual rings want to become straight. So a square block becomes a trapezoid. I'm guessing this candle holder must have been made from not quite dry wood.

Now stop thinking about woodworking and just enjoy your beer.

I have seen too much OSB lately so I'm posting old stuff. Although I am proud of the temporary 'tiny' house we are now living in I long for some decent shop time.

Also it's really hard to get decent pictures of the interior of the tiny house. 😎

Not all benches need to be fancy. Made in a couple of hours from pieces of an old garden shed, offcuts from the tiny house and a leftover 12mm OSB sheet. Amazed how sturdy it is. Will be very useful during the renovations of the actual house.

I centered the screw when I put it in about 5 years ago. The top shrank about 5mm.

The desk is 60cm wide and the wood was quite dry. It is winter and quite dry inside so not really a surprise, bit still nice to see wood movement in action without the consequences. Wish I used nicer screws tough 🙂

Almost done moving out of the old house.

Problem with moving to a small temporary house is that not everything fits. The records I can live without, the books make me sad but the furniture 🥺.

Yesterday we moved, well partially. We slept and ate in our temporary house for the first time. Today we'll move the fridge, sofa and Netflix. Everything will be chaos for the next couple of days but the bathroom and kitchen both work quite well and the weather is awesome so yay!

This is not what my tiny house looks like. Most of the time the floor is hardly even visible with all the tools and bits of wood. At the end of the day however, this is what I strive for.

Sometimes I even succeed 😌

Black plastic box on the outside, OSB box on the inside.

Except for the actual roof the exterior is finished. Yesterday we made all of the woody bits used to hide imperfections around windows and stuff (trim?). Thanks Jarno! And today I'll tackle the floor.

Temporary House now has windows (except for one). Also taped all of the flappy bits and hoping it's enough to survive the storm tonight and tomorrow. One more day of fiddly bits and the exterior (except for the roof) should be done.
