🎤 Meet the keynote speakers opening the 40th EBC Congress in Rotterdam (6–9 September 2026).

Our Opening Plenary will bring together three leading experts to explore brewing from historical, scientific and technological perspectives.

💠 Dr. Petr Vesely from AB InBev will share the story of African beer and what brewers can learn from traditional brewing practices. His talk will explore alternative raw materials, innovative brewing approaches, and insights into affordability and consumer needs.

💠 Prof. Thomas Henle from Technische Universität Dresden will present fascinating new research on Maillard reaction products in brewing fermentations. His findings offer fresh perspectives on yeast domestication and introduce the FAN glycation index as a potential new tool for assessing wort quality.

💠 Dr. Tomáš Vrzal from The Research Institute of Brewing and Malting in Prague will reveal how explainable artificial intelligence can help decode consumer preferences for non-alcoholic beers, linking sensory perception with chemical composition to better understand what drives consumer behaviour .

Together, these keynote presentations will set the stage for three days of scientific exchange, innovation and inspiration.

Today, on International , we celebrate the essential role that healthy crops and sustainable agriculture play in brewing Europe’s beers.🌱🍻

From aromatic hops and barley malt to wheat and other natural ingredients, beer begins in the field. Protecting plant health means protecting biodiversity, supporting farmers and securing the quality ingredients that are at the heart of Europe’s brewing tradition.

It is also a reminder that than what is in the glass. Beer supports rural communities, agricultural livelihoods, innovation and social connection across Europe, with every great beer starting from healthy plants and the people who care for them.
