Now distributed by 𝙋𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙤𝙢 𝙃𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨, the 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗩 𝗟𝗲𝗴 is a re-edition of the Office Cane Chair designed by the 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘳𝘩 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 in 1995.

Chandigarh is India’s first city post-independence, also disgnated as the administrative capital. The furnishings of the new town were entrusted to 𝘗𝘪𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘦 𝘑𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘵 in collaboration with on-site indian architects and designers, like 𝘌𝘶𝘭𝘪𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘰𝘸𝘥𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘺 and 𝘑𝘦𝘦𝘵 𝘔𝘢𝘭𝘩𝘰𝘵𝘳𝘢 that played a significant role in crafting and creating the wooden furniture for the Chandigarh Capital Project.

The Chandigarh Collection is special as it was developped at the same time as the town itself.
They set aside artistic embellishment in favor of structural efficiency, to focus on the functionality of a future large-scale urban project. Like this, the pieces could act as a link between the architecture and the people, making the city livable.
It ended up embodying aspirations and values of modernity, rationality, freedom and the country’s urban hopes for the future.

The whole furniture collection is emblematic of what we call “Tropical Modernism” because it blends European ideals of functionality with local materials, craftsmanship and traditional techniques from India. Originally tailored for administrative offices, mostly solid teak wood and cane weaving were used.

Characterized by its “compass feet”, clean lines and built-in armrests, the Office chair is the core product of the collection. The re-edition stays true to the original structure and spirit. You can still enjoy beautiful hand-woven rattan weaving with its knots visible on the backrest!

Available in three wood and two cane weave finishes.
