# January
January came and went in a flash. We all kind of felt we needed some organisational realignment after the first 4 months, and that's how we kicked off the new year. We talked about what worked in 2016 and what didn't. If we were still on track and if we were keeping our organisation and tools updated. Guess what... So not just talking, but also implementing. In French they have a great phrase for this: se faire remonter les bretelles. This time not by someone else, but by ourselves. Auto-remonter les bretelles! It works.

We also set the date for our beta launch in Kenya: 21st of March. Bringing some spring freshness to the market. Putting us - again - on a very tight schedule.

Ever perfectionist Charles wants to launch with an optimised and redesigned product. This means that the database structure has to be improved for performance and scalability. Despite occasional sighs from the development end of the office, this comes along nicely.

Victor has been working on the back end to integrate a machine learning component to our product. We've just added a rather ambitious objective to launch with - at least partially - automated categorisation. Quite a challenge.

We're off again to Nairobi next week for more user testing of the newest version and to onboard the second group of alpha testers. The pressure is on again.

On the B2B front, Hans is working on the partnerships. We have heard him on the phone endlessly. Kenyan telephone operators apparently are extremely efficient in fencing off cold calling. He has had to apply all his charm to get through. Considering that meetings have been confirmed in Nairobi, at least he seems to have given proof that - occasionally and when forced - he can be charming. Parallel to setting up the meetings, he has been working on the commercial proposals, which look rather smart. We believe all potential partners should be able find their sweet spot.

And I have mainly been researching and writing out our launch program: redefining the website and how to optimise it for SEO, Playstore strategy, meetups, live events, Twitter, Facebook, PR and advertising. Everything must work in symbiosis to ensure the best possible uptake of the app when we launch.

With all this in place, February announces itself again as a very hands-on month. We'll keep you posted!

# December

December started with a huge relief. We managed to achieve our 1st huge deadline: complete the MVP to show it to potential investors. Charles did an amazing job and was working long days to get this done. You didn't hear him anymore and you couldn't even talk to him because he had his new Spotify playlist jamming in his earphones.

After the 3 crazy days at SLUSH, we couldn't slack off! The second deadline, only 10 days later, was approaching rapidly: getting the Alpha ready for our first user test in Nairobi.

While Charles was working hard on getting everything out and Hans was establishing B2B contacts, I was searching for the first Overviewers! 25 people were contacted and meetings were set.

Still coding on the plane from Brussels to Addis and nearly missing our connection, we landed safely in Nairobi. And we can't wait to get the product in the hand of the users. The first users had technicals bugs but day by day we updated the app! After 8 days and our 24 first excited Overviewers working with our app, we flew back to Brussels.

No break right after Nairobi because we needed to work hard on the new Overviewers community and bugs had to be solved and updates pushed to our users. We completed a full analysis of the recordings, sent out a status report and signed the contract for our first data scientist intern all before the 29th of Dec.

Just go back from our trip to Nairobi! Great feedback from our very first users. Next trip scheduled end of Jan.
