Between design and art, Rima Khatib designart’s limited edition work is a reflection of Postmodernism, where ordinary everyday objects, like a table, or a mirror, become expressions of the poetic and the magical. The designer best describe her work as being “modern with a soul”. Originally an architect graduated from the University of Minnesota, Rima Khatib worked in architecture and interior desi
gn for a few years. She then opened an atelier for the creation of handmade paper, a first in Lebanon at the time. The desire to work with other materials, drives her to continue her education in industrial design and thus, she joins Creapole in Paris. She participates in many exhibitions in Beirut, Paris and Dubai, while her work gets published in many magazines. After going back and forth between a family business in architecture with her strong interest in sustainability and green buildings, and her desire to create more ‘freely’ her objects, Rima finally decides to launch her own line of furniture and accessories, her true passion. By using technology and artisanal techniques, Rima combines the best of both worlds in Beirut to create unique designs as a reflection of her individuality. Wood elements in all their different essences and colors are often combined together to create pieces that push the limits of the manufacturing process to arrive at truly original, never seen before designs.
