“I started woodcarving soon after I got married. My husband, his father and his mother, they were all woodcarvers. I was thrilled about what they were doing and I wanted to try to learn this old craft that our town of Konjic is known for. Later I will accidentally discover that my father also studied and practiced woodcarving. It turned out I was talented.
My husband Dino and I soon opened our workshop at the ground floor of our family house. I actually believe that women have great talent for woodcarving and the attention to detail it requires.” - Mina Šašić, Zanat woodcarver.
From our humble beginnings, to more than a century and four generations of woodcarvers - we’ve come a long way.

Riccio — meaning “hedgehog” — is a tactile wooden sculpture whose softly rounded form and finely hand-carved grooves evoke the quiet strength, charm, rhythm, and organic geometry of nature.

Introducing TEMPO. New Zanat side table is designed by Palomba Serafini Associati and Inspired by the quiet ritual of chess.
Tempo is conceived as an object defined by movement and placement. Its vertical, sculptural composition crafted entirely from solid wood recalls a chess piece resting on the board, inviting thoughtful positioning within a space. When lifted and set down, the solid wood base meets the floor with a soft, resonant
sound echoing the tactile gesture of moving a chess figure. This subtle moment becomes part of the experience of the piece.
Crafted from solid wood and enriched with Zanat’s distinctive hand-carving, Tempo celebrates the tactile and visual qualities of carved wood. The patterns create depth and rhythm across the surface, inviting the hand to follow their relief while light and shadow move gently across the carved planes.
Through this interplay of movement, texture, and craftsmanship, Tempo reflects Zanat’s philosophy of transforming traditional woodworking into contemporary design, bringing rhythm, balance, and quiet presence to the spaces it inhabits.

Built from 1971-1974, and over 100m tall, it was the tallest building in Yugoslavia at the time, while using the same materials and technology used to build Yugoslav nuclear power plant “Krško”.
Slobodan Jovanović was its chief architect.
With 237 apartments, it housed workes of various socio-economic backgrouds, “from janitors to managers of steel industry.”
Lamela in Zenica is perhaps the most recognizable landmark in this central Bosnia town, and a symbol of industrial ambition of Yugoslavia.
Zanat explores cultural, architectural and design heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, looking at the patterns weaving through our design path and process.
