The faces behind By Two Rusty Old Nails

Established in 2009 in the leafy suburb of Barmaryee, Yeppoon Queensland, after leaving our rural setting outside of Nebo in 2008. It started as a passionate hobby for upcycling and repurposing old timber furniture and home architectural items, from when I was a kid and it has kept me busy over the years. I can foresee potential beauty in what a piece can be rather than what they currently looks like or is/was used for (it helped when my creative parents owned a sawmill on the Atherton tablelands, and my timber supply was always just there, and living on a farm I saw the raw beauty in nature, along with disused farming and industrial equipment and buildings that had seen better days), this to me was like an open lolly shop. After a couple of life changing events in our family, I decided to see where this passion would lead me too, so in late 2009 I set to work fulltime from home. I am truly blessed that my husband Desi loves working with timber and me, when he is at home from his full time job, so is able to helpout when the job is just too big for one. Desi is just as creative and I call him my ‘Macgyver’ as he can fix anything. So together we are furniture artisans, working ardently for many hours on our commissioned pieces that need that extra love and attention to bring it back to life, so it can join your family’s history for many more years still to come. On-site we have a studio displaying our items we have finished for you to also purchase. I believe here at ‘By Two Rusty Old Nails’ we are the ultimate destination for lovers of all things shabby chic, vintage, country, beachy, French inspired, and recrafted what was once unused furniture and repurposed it to a one of a kind bespoke furniture piece - a virtual Aladdin's cave of gorgeous pieces of upcycled or repurposed furniture, new and vintage cabinet hardware and a small selection of new homewares that we have carefully selected and sourced. A lot of our work is also commission work breathing new life into your own beautiful pieces. I redesigning, repaint with chalk paint, sand and finish with a quality wax all by hand, and this is all done on site the old fashioned way. This sustainable approach ensures all our finished pieces are of solid construction and are a one of a kind selection unique to you.
