🏗️ BUILDING A NEW HOME? LET’S START AT THE VERY BEGINNING — THE STEEL INSPECTION.

Before the concrete is poured, there’s an important opportunity to independently inspect what is about to become the foundation of your home.

A pre-pour steel inspection allows us to inspect visible and accessible components such as the reinforcement, vapour barrier and service penetrations before they disappear beneath the concrete.

Why is this stage so important?

Because once the concrete arrives and the slab is poured, many of these components can no longer be visually inspected.

🔎 During a Steel Inspection, we’re looking for issues such as:

• Reinforcement placement and installation
• Vapour barrier installation, including visible tears or penetrations
• Service penetrations and their positioning
• General workmanship and visible items requiring attention prior to the pour

Finding an issue at this stage gives the builder an opportunity to address it before the concrete is poured, rather than dealing with a potentially much more difficult issue later.

And remember — your builder has their own quality processes, but an independent building inspector works for you.

Happy Father’s Day from Inspecta Holmes 🧡

Today we’re celebrating two very special dads — John and Nathan.

John has been an important part of the Inspecta Holmes story from the beginning, bringing decades of experience in property and a lifetime of knowledge to share. But to us, he’s Dad — always there with advice, support and the occasional bit of fatherly wisdom, whether we asked for it or not! 😂

Nathan is not only a dad, but also the man you’ll find out on site. With more than 30 years of experience in the building industry, he brings an incredible amount of knowledge and dedication to every inspection. Behind the inspector, though, is a very proud dad who works hard for his family — something that means far more.

There’s something pretty special about a family business where a father and son get to work alongside each other, sharing their knowledge, experience and probably a few disagreements along the way! 😂

❄️ Cold mornings, warm homes... and foggy windows?

If you've noticed condensation on the inside of your windows lately, you're not alone. It's something many homes experience during winter.

Condensation occurs when warm, moisture-filled air inside your home comes into contact with cold surfaces like windows. While it's common, ongoing condensation can create the perfect environment for mould to grow if moisture isn't managed.

A few simple habits can make a big difference:

🪟 Open your windows for 5–10 minutes each morning to let fresh air circulate.

🌬️ Use exhaust fans when showering, cooking and doing the laundry.

👕 If possible, dry clothes outside or in a well-ventilated area.

🚪 Allow air to move freely throughout your home by leaving internal doors open where practical.

💧 Wipe excess moisture from windows and sills before it has a chance to soak into surrounding materials.

Remember, a little condensation on a cold morning is normal. It's when moisture lingers day after day that problems such as mould, musty odours and damage to paintwork can begin to develop.

A well-ventilated home is a healthier home.
