Big week this week delivering.
MEANWHILE
Ive been secretly working on these Australian red cedar chairs, hand sanding to keep patina.
Early Australuan cedar is quite dark, post 1920s cedar get lighter.
The carvings are all hand made see differences in pictures, hense I know the backs are 1880s to 1910s. ....which made the cedar a magical dark rick colour.
NOTE: 4/5 DIFFERENCE
6/7 DICE COVERS ONE BUT NOT THE OTHER
8/9 DIFFERENT. notice on left of 8 the carving continued right to tip. second one its done in 2 parts.

This Queensland Maple double bed was given to the grandaughter of original over 40 years ago. The original owners and theirvbrothers works and lived at Pomana QLD Butter factory.
Fast forward 40 years and its back to owner all restored, the finish was very broken down. We had to reglue all sides as well
Its has beautiful carvings and the grain is amazing, just as it would have looked when original about 1916.
NOTE: shallac has a tendancy to go black in our north Qld climate especially when oiled which is what everyone did.

Finished this cute silky Oak table today. It was made by owners father who was a policeman Sargent, adapted from a larger issue desk.
The original green leather appeared damaged but responded beautifully to wax.
NOTE:
client said its called a Joseph chair. It was attached to end to the main desk

Remember all those chairs that were in the barn for repair. All repaired repolished only and delivered. Check out the 3 dowells in some chairs. Poor Ron, the things people do to " temperary repair chairs over the years, screws, nails and 3 dowels. Its hard to pull apart without damageing even further.

ANYWAY...
It reminded my why I restore furniture I found it all so uninspiring, so bland, so same.....
WHICH....
Brings me to a slightly modern piece I restored. It was an asian made kitchen work bench left outside. A couple who fell in love with it at garage sale bought it to me to "tidy up"
Check her out way better than anyting I saw in Harvey Norman today even if not an antique. We had to straight her up, light sand and colour so as not to loose the rough rustic look.
OH YES...
and add some towel racks long gone.
Thanks to Ron he cut them for me, not too perfect so as to match the not so perfact cabinet.
I was a little out of ordinary for me but up to the challenge. The owners loved her ,now a classy but casual lady.
Looks so happy to be home.
I have the best clients who just give me a brief and then let me do the work trusting me..

Sharing a house my son Jono is working on. Its Queensland heritage listed with Queensland Building Heritage in Spring Hill Brisbane.
Its a stone semi detached house built by 2 Scottish business partners in 1860
The fronts are slightly different. Jono replaced the little verandah roof of the right side, there were signs where it once was. They replicated it as best they could while keeping modern building codes in mind. They are also replicating the fence on top of stone like next door. Look forward to seeing it complete
