Power and data are easy to overlook when planning office furniture.

But their location can affect where workstations go, how cables are managed and whether people can actually use the desk setup comfortably.

One chair adjustment that’s easy to overlook: seat depth.

A seat that extends too far forward can press against the back of the knees, while one that is too shallow may not provide enough support through the thighs.

Seat depth adjustment allows the chair to be set more appropriately for different users rather than relying on one fixed seat position.

Storage shouldn’t create a circulation problem.

Not every monitor arm is suitable for every screen.

When choosing a monitor arm, screen size is only part of the equation. Weight, curvature, mounting compatibility and range of movement all need to be considered.

For larger displays, the arm also needs enough capacity to hold the screen securely while still allowing it to be repositioned comfortably.

Outdoor seating in a commercial space needs to handle more than the weather.

A meeting table can fit in a room and still be the wrong size for the space.

When planning a meeting room, the table dimensions are only part of the equation. You also need to allow for chairs to move comfortably, people to circulate behind seated users, doors to open freely, and access to screens, storage, power and data.

A larger table might add another seat or two, but if it reduces circulation or makes the room difficult to use, it’s usually not the better choice.

It’s worth planning the space around the table, not just the table itself.
