Since 1958, the Australian Good Design Awards have celebrated the nation’s most forward-thinking design innovations. Endorsed by the World Design Organisation, these awards are not just about aesthetics - they champion design that solves real-world problems, sets new standards, and drives social, technological, and environmental progress.
Across more than six decades, thousands of designs have been honoured - from sustainable architecture to cutting-edge product design.
Yet, only a handful have ever emerged from the world of telecommunications infrastructure. That’s what makes HUB’s TOWER.NODE achievement in the 2024 Awards is so significant.
HUB’s TOWER.NODE reimagines traditional sports lighting towers by integrating macro telecommunications infrastructure into a single, sleek form. In doing so, it addresses two of the most pressing challenges for growing communities:
• There is a need to replace aging sports lighting assets owned by local councils.
• There is ongoing difficulty in finding suitable, community-friendly sites for critical telecommunications infrastructure.
By merging these two needs, TOWER.NODE isn’t just functional - it’s transformative.
It exemplifies the Good Design Awards’ core values of innovation, quality, sustainability and impact.
As one of the few telecommunications infrastructure designs in the Awards’ history to be recognised, TOWER.NODE signals a turning point. It shows how even the most utilitarian infrastructure can be reimagined with purpose, elegance, and community in mind.
At HUB, we’re proud to contribute to this new chapter in Australian design. The future is not only connected - it’s beautifully designed.
