HAY Australia HAY is a global design company supplying contemporary furniture, lighting and accessories.

HAY was founded in 2002, and within a year the company launched its first furniture collection at the international furniture fair IMM in Cologne. This marked the beginnings of the international ambition that HAY has pursued over the past decade: creating durable quality furniture at affordable prices to allow as many people

as possible to enjoy excellent design. HAY looks back with pride at the age of Danish Modern, where quality, craftsmanship and humanistic design put Denmark on the global map, and we look with excitement to the future as we explore the current possibilities inherent in new technologies, new materials and new ways of living with furniture. Our world is constantly changing, and our habits and our need for flexibility change with them. We consider it our principal task to provide functional answers to functional needs. Answers that are translated into meaningful and authentic products that have a long life span and are available at a democratic price. To achieve this goal, we work with some of the world’s leading designers, both the up-and-coming and the more established, who deliver innovative, quirky and unconventional ideas that can be translated into innovative form. In 2005, HAY launched an accessory line with selected products found around the world. These products had an original story and were perfect for both the modern workplace and private homes. This is the standard we are still aiming for in the development of our own accessories, ranging from paper articles, storage solutions and tableware to textiles, small furniture pieces and blankets, which we create in cooperation with international designers and our own in-house design team. Today, HAY is a global corporation that employs hundreds of people in countries around the world, and we take pride in this achievement. We are inclusive where it is possible and establish sustainable workplaces where it makes sense. Today, HAY has retailers in most countries as well as flagship stores in Europe and Asia. In 2013, we founded the international co-brand Wrong For HAY in cooperation with the acclaimed designer Sebastian Wrong, who in addition to his own designs also spots new talent capable of creating relevant and cutting-edge products for the brand, which enjoys an eclectic and international vantage point from its base in London’s multi-cultural melting pot. At the heart of everything that HAY does is the notion that contemporary design should spring from a good idea, innovative technology and quality materials in combination with joyful, straightforward and uncomplicated aesthetics.

EVENT GALLERY. Last week we hosted a special breakfast at Hope St Radio to celebrate the opening of our new HAY Melbourne store, plus the new HAY Phaidon book and HAY's 20th anniversary.

Head chef Ellie Bouhadana created a beautiful breakfast menu which was enjoyed by a lovely group of guests from Melbourne's creative community, followed by a tour of the new HAY Melbourne store.

DEZEEN AWARDS. Congratulations Muller Van Severen on winning 'Design Studio of the Year' at the Dezeen 2022 awards!

The Belgium-based design studio was founded in 2011 by Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen, who create sculpturally interesting furniture and objects characterised by careful research into their shared passion for art, architecture and materials.

Judges' comments: "Muller Van Severen uses a recognisable and coherent design language. There is a clear design DNA that runs through all of the studio's work. The designs show imaginative use of colour and materials with a very distinctive design aesthetic."

HAY was founded in 2002 with the ambition to create contemporary furniture that uses sophisticated industrial manufacturing to satisfy the needs of modern living. Today, this fundamental goal remains our mission: through our commitment to the design and production of furniture, lighting and accessories with an international appeal, we strive to make good design accessible to the largest possible audience.

Inspired by the stable structures of architecture and the dynamics of fashion, HAY combines the values of both industries in durable, quality products that provide added value for the user. HAY’s continued vision is to create straightforward, functional and aesthetic design in cooperation with some of the world’s most talented, curious and courageous designers. This has resulted in many fruitful collaborations, and in 2018, HAY joined forces with American furniture company Herman Miller to deliver excellent design to a wide variety of customers and contexts.
