🚨 ROAD UPDATE: OODNADATTA TRACK FULLY OPEN🚨

Another week, another road open. Thanks to the grader operators doing a great job getting things sorted, the tracks are ready for everyone to get moving again.

The road from William Creek Hotel to Oodnadatta is now open to 4wd & heavy vehicles, including towing. Additionally, the section from Oodnadatta to Marla has opened for 4wd & towing (under 3 tonnes).

This means the Oodnadatta Track is now open in its entirety from Marree through to Marla. If you’ve been waiting to make the full run, the gates are open.

Current Status:

Marree ➔ William Creek ➔ Oodnadatta: Open to 4wd & heavy vehicles, including towing.

Oodnadatta ➔ Marla: Open to 4WD and towing (under 3t).

What about Mt Dare Hotel?
We know a lot of you are looking to head north, especially for the Finke Desert Race 2026. Currently, the road to Mt Dare and Witjira National Park remain closed due to flood damage. We’ll keep you updated on any potential opening timelines for these roads as soon as we hear anything.

Mechanical Fitter/Diesel Mechanic

Based – Olympic Dam, South Australia

About Us:
Outback Mining Services (OMS) is a complete mining maintenance and labour hire provider based out of Port Augusta, serving the Upper Spencer Gulf and Far North of South Australia. We provide specialised maintenance, repair and diesel fitting services to the mining and resources sector, for repair, servicing and maintenance of plant, equipment and vehicles. This includes earthmoving equipment, drill rigs, underground mining equipment, heavy transport machinery and vehicles.

About the role:
We are seeking a qualified Diesel Mechanic with at least 2 years trade experience to join our team, based at Olympic Dam South Australia.
FIFO and DIDO options available ex Adelaide and Pt Augusta.

Duties: (including but not limited to)
• Maintenance and repair of earthmoving equipment, drill rigs, mining plant and vehicles.
• Diagnostic fault finding via self-diagnostic systems in machinery and plant.
• Conduct checks and report on maintenance required through regular, documented inspections.
• Participate in safety training and safety audits.

Skills/Experience:
• Demonstrated experience in the service & repair of heavy earthmoving and mining plant and machinery.
• Ability to complete plant/machinery inspections, compiling accurate reports of maintenance required & faults found,
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and implement time management principles.
• Commitment to WHS principles and mine site-specific requirements.
• High Risk Tickets e.g. FL, EWP (desirable)
• Strong safety mindset
• Team player and safety-first attitude

Roster Cycles:
• 7 dayshifts on / 7 days off
• 7 nightshifts on / 7 days off

Successful candidate(s) will be required to pass a pre-employment process including a medical and police check.

We provide specialised maintenance, repair and diesel fitting services to the mining and resources sector, for repair, servicing and maintenance of plant, equipment and vehicles. This includes earthmoving equipment, drill rigs, underground mining equipment, heavy transport machinery and vehicles.

Due to recent expansion and increase in demand, OMS is now providing trade-based support and labour to our growing client base at Osbourne Naval Shipyard in Adelaide South Australia.

About the role:
We are seeking Trade Assistants, Brush Hands, Painters & Blasters to join our growing team, based at Osborne Naval Shipyard, SA.
Duties: (including but not limited to)
• Surface and paint preparation.
• General site maintenance
• Manual Handling/Labouring
• Usage of equipment and hand power tools.
• Working in confined spaces
• Overtime and some weekend work available
• Opportunity for training & development

Skills/Experience:
• Hold a Nationally Accredited OHS Card (White Card)
• Industrial spray painter experience (Highly advantageous)
• Confined space ticket (desirable)
• Painting-decorating / Roller/brush experience (desirable)
• High Risk Tickets e.g. FL, EWP (desirable)
• Strong safety mindset
• Team player and safety-first attitude
