Even when we sometimes miss those being with moments, if we are available consistently enough our children come to know we will come back to them and meet their needs for connection and emotional support.

Being curious about what is happening for the child, being with them in the feeling, and letting them know you’re there for them create the foundations of empathy.

Learning empathy starts with adult capacities – our energy levels, our feeling states, our sense of wellbeing all impact our capacity to remain empathic. The same is true for our children.
