In the midst of 1960s Italian design, Afra and Tobia Scarpa were exploring how furniture could bring architectural thinking closer to the human body. The 925 Lounge, conceived in 1965 and catalogued as 1966, distils that thinking into a chair that feels both grounded and remarkably light. Its robust timber structure carries an anatomical seat and cantilevered back, allowing the frame to provide strength while the softer elements respond naturally to the sitter. The result is an elegant interplay of solidity and movement, where comfort is not applied to the structure, but emerges from it.

Beam translates the language of architecture into a system of furniture, drawing directly from the structural logic of Foster + Partners’ buildings. Its clean geometry takes inspiration from the long concrete beams of the Narbo Via Museum in Narbonne, reinterpreted through timber shelves and slender metal uprights that create a sense of rhythm, balance and openness. Freestanding, wall-fixed and ceiling-mounted configurations allow the system to shift between architecture and object, with shelves positioned at varying heights and combined horizontally to form larger compositions. There is a quiet precision to the collection, where structure becomes expression and storage becomes something more considered, almost sculptural. Crafted in oak and designed for longevity, Beam feels less like a shelving unit imposed upon a room and more like a piece of architecture growing within it.

Serratura turns one of Fornasetti’s most recognisable visual motifs into something strangely intimate. Lina Cavalieri, the soprano whose face became a recurring subject throughout Piero Fornasetti’s work, appears here only as a glimpse, framed within the severe outline of a keyhole. The image plays with the tension between revealing and concealing, transforming a familiar classical portrait into something mysterious, almost voyeuristic. Handcrafted in wool and linen using a jacquard technique, the raised pattern gives the image a tactile depth that makes the rug feel less like a printed surface and more like an object unearthed from Fornasetti’s surreal world.

Ahead of last Saturday’s exhibition, Mobilia Sydney welcomed 60 guests from across Australia’s design community for an intimate VIP Lunch and an exclusive first look at the Eames Office Pavilion and Kettal Workplace Exhibition.

With a beautiful menu prepared by Chef Harry John Wilson, the afternoon was centred around joining together over good food, thoughtful conversation, and a shared love of design.

Thank you to all that attended.

What a day. We can’t express enough how grateful we are to everyone who joined us for Saturday Indesign in Sydney this weekend and experienced the Eames Pavilion and Kettal Workplace exhibition.

From the valuable learnings to the meaningful conversations throughout the day, it was such a pleasure to see the showroom come alive with so many new and familiar faces.

A big thanks to Kettal’s Founder and CEO, Alex Alorda for travelling all the way from Spain to be here and share his wonderful insights and expertise with us all.

Congratulations to our competition winner, and a sincere thank you to everyone who took the time to explore the exhibition, scan the clues, and put their knowledge to the test — we hope you all enjoyed yourselves and learnt something new.

The Eames Pavilion and Kettal Workplace exhibition will continue to showcase at Mobilia Sydney for the next two months, if you didn’t get a chance to visit over the weekend, we highly suggest you come see it for yourself.

A study in colour, texture and quiet transformation, Bay House turns a once rigid, brown-toned apartment into something far more introspective and alive. Deep greens, agate blues and richly figured stones draw from the shifting tones of the harbour beyond, while softer moments of timber, brass and layered textiles give the interiors a sense of warmth and depth. The furniture and collected objects are woven carefully through the home, creating an atmosphere that feels personal rather than prescribed. There is a richness to the spaces, but also a sense of calm, as though every element has found its place within the changing light and water beyond.

Exploring the quiet relationship between light, colour and texture, translating the changing qualities of sunlight into richly handwoven rugs that feel both graphic and atmospheric. Defined by layered gradients, softened geometries and subtle shifts in tone, each piece captures the fleeting way light moves across a surface, revealing depth and dimension through the craftsmanship of hand-knotted Himalayan wool and silk. Rather than acting as a decorative element alone, Re Sole establishes a sense of warmth and rhythm within a space, demonstrating cc-tapis’ enduring commitment to material experimentation, artisanal craftsmanship and contemporary design.
