Wivenhoe Dam's level will be reduced from 90% to 80% over a two-week period starting this Saturday, the Queensland government has announced.

South East locals are being urged to use water for free over the fortnight to bring the level down ahead of what is expected to be another wet summer.

The water bill discount will be rolled out between December and March for residents in the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Redlands, Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Lockyer Valley, Somerset, and Scenic Rim councils.
