Very informative few days at the Australian Bushfire Building Conference. We like to be at the forefront of all industry information and updates, and make an enthusiastic effort to attend many events.

Some key points for developers, homeowners as well as the general public from this very important event topic;

Bushfire construction requirements are now coming in to commercial buildings such as childcare centres, schools, hospitals and aged care facilities, to protect vulnerable occupants.

The RFS has revised and updated it's Fire Danger Rating System, which advises fire hazard risks on any given day and location. This system is now based on fire behaviour, rather than the weather.

Cultural (First Nations) fire management methods are gentle and work to support ecology and environmental health overall. It prevents the 'wrong' type of fire by practicing management with the 'right' type of fire.

Plants and landscaping, if done correctly, can assist in protecting a home from ember attack.

The key factors in house loss during bushfire include storage of gas bottles and wood piles beside the home.

If you'd like to find out more, phone our office for a general summary and discussion of how bushfire planning may impact your project. 1300 930 520.

A year to the day between photos! This townhouse development was brought to us for an external re-design to reduce contruction costs. We changed the cladding from (more expensive) brick to lightweight and more modern, and altered the roof system, at the time saving an estimated $100k overall ($20k per townhouse).

Now, through marketing by Kapalua, and construction by Mavid, the new proud owners can soon move in!

Good designers work on construction sites too...

Hi, nice to meet you! And welcome to The Design Hub! I started this business to support homeowners and investors who require an above standard style of build, but donโ€™t necessarily want the cost of an architect.

Iโ€™m extremely passionate about houses, and how they make us feel. In fact I have a bit of an obsession with houses! As a young child I would pore over the old 80's square Lego mat (remember those?) to discover how many ways Lego could build different houses.

Then at the age of 18, when I moved from the only home I'd ever known, I fixated over floorplans. Itโ€™s this obsession with every level of detail that The Design Hub clients benefit from. With something as important as your home, you want a designer thatโ€™s personally invested in the best outcome for you. Before I gained my Bachelor degree in Architecture I got dirty on the tools doing house renovations under the direction of a licenced builder. Actually, I love building things just as much as I love designing them, to the point where I completed a carpentry pre-apprenticeship course during my final year of uni. Our team of designers and draftspeople are also a good mix of practical trades backgrounds as well as design trained, which are essential qualities to look for in any building designer.

I believe that the places that shelter us should be beautiful, have meaning, resolve our everyday problems and above all, fulfil our lives and spirit. Good architecture shouldnโ€™t cost more, but a well-designed house can offer you so much more than you expect. This is what we bring you at The Design Hub, so visit our website and drop us a line in our contact form and Iโ€™ll personally get back to you. Yours in good design, Paula Harwood
