The time has come!

After nearly 3 years of learning new skills and an appreciation for timber, its time for me to fulfil a dream of mine - to build a red gum slab table (or two).

If you or a loved one have been waiting for the ultimate feature piece, please send me a message to build and deliver your dream dining table.

These will not be cheap. They are 160kg each, 2600 x 1300 and 60mm thick, dead flat with two live edges. You just cannot find timber slabs like this nowadays.

Here's a real statement piece - 2.1 meters round, 44mm Vic Ash finished in matte urethane, on top of what I'm calling Cally-style legs (after their designer).

There'll be no trouble hosting 12 people for dinner with this expansive dining table, only available through your friendly local Oldwood craftsman 😊

Something I've been meaning to finish for a while.

2480 x 965 made from very old recycled messmate. This timber came out of roof trusses from a Melbourne townhouse Circa 1920. As such it is not straight, not flat and full of feature.

Nail holes, sap lines and big gum veins have been filled with clear resin with just enough imperfections left to remind you it's made of real timber. It has been joined using hardwood dowels for that real antique look.

Finished in durable gloss urethane, every bit of woodgrain stands out and it would make a real show piece in a big dining area.

The last table of 2020, the one that has tested me in every little way that it could.

1800mm round, 44mm thick Ash timber, silky matte urethane, with the customers own imagination poured into the table legs.

I tend to have a bit of a soft spot for all the tables I make but this one is extra special.

Employee of the year coming up in the next few days once we tally the votes 😁
