Babies will sneeze to clear their airway passages 🤧
This is super important as babies
can only breathe through their nose 😤 they don’t yet know how to mouth breathe.
However, they only need a tiny area of space near their nose to be able to breathe.
This is important to remember when you are breastfeeding 🤱🏻and you’re feeling like
your breast is smothering them! 😆😂 There is no need to hold your breast away from their nostril, they will be able to breathe!
When we go to clear their nasal passages with Normal Saline (because they’re snotty
or have a cold, or sound congested), remember they can only breathe through their nose. We don’t want to go blocking both nostrils with Normal Saline at the same
time.
Put your drops in one nostril at a time, give it time to loosen any mucous and then
suction it out, or wait for your baby to sneeze. Then repeat on the other side. We
often recommend doing this prior to feeds and/or prior to sleep😴, so both activities can
be done with a clear breath! 😃
