With fresh paint, curtains and furnishings the room has been completely transformed. It’s incredible what some thoughtful colour, texture and layout can do for a space.

Mt Sturgeon Homesteadd is a spectacular 1800s colonial house set in a working farm of Dunkeld. Part of the , the Homestead is undergoing a rejuvenation that honours place and history while enhancing comfort for guests.

The brief for the Sitting Room was to transform the space into a welcoming retreat that celebrates the surrounding landscape.

The colour and material palette draws on a base of stoney blues, straw-like neutrals and deep greens drawn for the natural surrounds.

Spotted gum,, red brick and slubby linens. The focal point of this space is the dining table from customised to this earthy green. The table breaks up some of the warmer tones and provides a visual connection to the emerging garden beyond.

COLOUR AT OUR AUTUMNAL HOUSE

What love about this space is how the colours change throughout the day in different lights, and how beautifully they complement both the natural materials and all our furniture choices. Every room feels intentional and cohesive, yet each SPACE has its own personality.

This is what happens when you take time with colour selection - it’s not just about the walls, it’s about creating a whole experience.

The way everything flows together now... this is exactly why I’m so passionate about thoughtful colour choices!

Spotted gum, pink travertine and Japanese tiles providing the hard material goodness. We gave inspo images of a shelving unit by Gio Pontebto and they gave us an authentic Australian take on a classic form. It’s a key feature to the home separating kitchen and dining (and gives me a chance to do some irksome shelfie moments). Glorious!

AUTUMNAL HOUSE - MAIN BED

The materiality and colour for this room was inspired by the turning of the seasons from Summer to Autumn. Days are still warm and long, but the nights have a chill. The leaves are draining out the green to expose earthy yellows, warm browns and hot pinks.

It’s such a thrill to see these images in the pages of a real life magazine. Many thanks for for having me and allowing me to share these gorgeous images captured by and styled by .design.

Part 4 of our colour journey at Autumnal House. Dun dun duuuuuhn: the colour reveals is here!

These images were captured on our handover day and they make the space feel so warm and inviting even without the finishing touches of the furnishings (more on that next time). These colours have transformed this house into something so special the depth of tone is 👌 (IIDSSM).
