A set of 10 Victorian mahogany dining chairs.
These chairs underwent major restoration.
Most of the joints were loose, there were also broken pieces and lots of really bad old repairs using nails….
Chairs were dismantled, joints repaired old glue scraped away, fresh glue added and then chairs were re assembled and clamped.
The next process was to strip the polyurethane that had been added on top of the original shellac. Once this was done the surfaces were sanded by hand sympathetically without trying to lose too much patina.
The next step was to French polish them with shellac and once we were happy with the depth of polish, we cut them back and wax polished them.
The chairs now look like they have been loved and maintained for the last 150 years.
