What begins as a sketch and 3D model in Brunswick extends well beyond our studio walls.

Designed by Justin Hutchinson, the Portland Dining Chair is inspired by the landscape of Portland, Victoria, a considered balance between material, proportion and place. Each curve reflects a quiet connection to the natural environment that inspires it.

From there, the craft takes form. In Italy, skilled timber makers select, shape and refine every frame, drawing on generations of knowledge and time-honoured techniques. Back in Bayswater, our upholsterers complete the piece, layering foam and fabric, refining each seam and finish with care and precision.

The many hands that craft every piece.

Recently installed at Kew Golf Club, the Portland Dining Chairs now sit among lush greens and native trees - a backdrop that speaks to Kett’s design philosophy of inside looking out.

A behind-the-scenes glimpse into the journey of a chair - from sketch to workshop to table, made to be enjoyed for years to come.

Congratulations to our Design Director Justin Hutchinson for winning the people-industrial design category for the 2023 Design Anthology Awards!

For over two decades, Justin Hutchinson has shaped contemporary design in homes, offices, and streets. His work champions Australian design and manufacturing. Early collaborations with Tait, his collections like Stripe, Kink, Nano, and Jak and Jil became iconic. He has also founded Urban Commons, creating the versatile Tilt outdoor kitchen and sustainable urban concepts.

With Kett, Justin has developed signature indoor collections that utilise local makers and quality materials. In 2020, acknowledging the growing rental market, Justin developed a wall-hung joinery for Kett – a robust storage system that can be disassembled and relocated. Called ‘Frame’ the system is made in Australia free of formaldehyde, phenols, solvents, PVC or melamine.

Justin’s collections have been specified into noteworthy local and international projects, including The Australian Embassy in Washington DC, the Google HQ Singapore, Melbourne, Swinburne and Monash University, Melbourne Bar Arbory & the Brunswick Nightingale Precinct, alongside countless residential homes.

Justin's lasting contribution to Australian design shines through his adaptability, innovation, and dedication to enhancing our living spaces.

Interior designer .a.l.v.i.n.a.s.t.o.n.e and
architect Kym Muir transformed a 13-bedroom resort in Yallingup into a practical, multi-generational family holiday home. The design focused on sustainability and easy movement between indoor and outdoor spaces.

They replaced the resort's dark tones with light oak, tan leather, natural linen, and earth-toned velvets. The central stone fireplace became a focal point, surrounded by seating areas featuring our Otway Sofa, Coffee Tables and Johanna Ottoman.

At Kett Furniture, we are proud to be a part of the Slow Furniture movement, which is rooted in the philosophy of embracing sustainable and ethical design practices.

We are dedicated to creating designs that prioritise the use of high-quality materials and traditional craftsmanship while opposing the throwaway culture prevalent in modern furniture.

We firmly believe that furniture should be built to last, and we strive to create pieces that are not only visually appealing but also built to withstand the test of time. Our Erskine sofa is a prime example of this commitment to quality. Completely designed and made in Australia, this stunning sofa was crafted to be a lasting centrepiece in any home.
