A therapy dog can change the atmosphere of a room in seconds 🐶

Conversations start.
Residents engage.
Memories resurface.

But creating successful pet-friendly aged care spaces takes more than simply allowing dogs into the environment.

Furniture needs to support:
🐾 infection control
🐾 durability
🐾 resident safety
🐾 easy cleaning
🐾 long-term performance

In our latest article, we share 7 costly furniture mistakes facilities commonly make when introducing therapy dogs into aged care environments.

Because in aged care, furniture impacts more than appearance, it impacts everyday life.

A bold fabric choice can completely transform a space.

Behind the scenes with our Project Consultant, Krystle Hargreaves, capturing the Urban High Back Armchair on site at an aged care facility, upholstered in Florence Broadhurst’s Shadow Floral Midnight from Materialised.

With its striking balance of positive and negative space, this design brings personality, warmth and sophistication into resident spaces without compromising on comfort.

At FHG, we love helping aged care providers create environments that feel less clinical and more like home.

Behind the scenes in Byron Bay ✨

We recently spent a day on location in Byron Bay at one of our aged care facility projects, capturing a behind-the-scenes look at how an FHG space comes together on camera.

This shoot was about more than furniture, it was about bringing the environment to life.

From the lounge areas through to the dining spaces, every setting was styled to reflect how residents and staff actually experience the space day to day: comfortable, welcoming, and designed for connection.

We were lucky to be joined by some very special guests as our models, who helped bring a genuine sense of warmth and realism to the shoot.

A big thank you to photographer Leah Desborough for beautifully capturing the atmosphere and detail of the space.

It’s always rewarding to see our projects through this lens, not just as furniture, but as places where life happens.

The first photo is from 1951.

The man pictured is Mervyn Smith, founder of what would eventually become part of today’s FHG manufacturing story.

A lot has changed in 75 years, but one thing hasn’t.

People still want spaces that feel comfortable, welcoming and human.

In aged care especially, furniture is never 'just furniture'. It plays a role in resident comfort, family impressions, staff efficiency and creating spaces that feel more like home.

That’s why we still proudly manufacture furniture right here in Brisbane, working closely with aged care and retirement living providers across Australia.

This means:
✔ Better coordination across teams
✔ Fewer surprises on site
