Following some smaller builds, I thought it was time for something a bit bigger. This build is a toy box made from Huon Pine and Blackwood measuring roughly 1m x 60cm.

The grain of the Huon Pine is simply beautiful, wrapping fully around all four sides of the box and contrasting well with the Blackwood top and interior.

Thanks to for the beautiful materials.

Known as the 'Devils knot', this was another puzzle made as a gift for some friends. When dissembled its surprisingly tricky to put back together (which can be a little embarrassing when you built it....)!!

Made in Tassie Oak and finished with Danish oil.

To accompany the outdoor chairs, a small table with needlessly complex joinery was required. So one oval table with castle joints came right up!

Made in Tasmania Oak and finished with an oil based varnish, this came together very nicely.

With it being the present giving time of the year, I decided it was time to make some smaller woodworking projects. This cube puzzle, whilst small, did require precision in construction but was great fun to make.

Made in wormy chestnut and Tas oak dowels and finished with Danish oil.

Its summer, so time to make some outdoor chairs!

Inspired by a Foureyes Furniture design, I recently made this to go on my back deck and I really love how its come out. The angles and curved edges flow really well together - and its even comfy :)

Made mostly from Tas Oak, with a subtle contrast from Blackbutt slats and finished with an outdoor furniture oil.

Trying some experiments with photography on some older projects.

The box is made from Tasmanian Oak with a Blackwood liner and patterned plywood lid. I really love the pattern created for the lid, but it is time consuming :)

Back to making some slightly bigger projects with a mid-century modern themed coffee table. Lots of angles, contrasting colours and edges make this piece really interesting visually, not to mention fun to build.

Made from Tasmanian oak and myrtle, finished with Danish oil.
Design inspired by Foureyes furniture.

Trying something new with the photography here, which I think got some good results.

The project is a workshop stool using round wedged tenon joinery. I tried to use a variety of wood species and colours to bring some visual interest to this - which I think worked really well!

The seat is Blackwood, legs Tasmanian Oak and the wedges Huon Pine.

This is an entertainment unit built to a clients specifications in Wormy Chestnut.

Measuring 150cm wide x 60cm tall and 50cm wide it was a little bigger than my regular builds, but it was fun to see it come together.
The Wormy Chestnut was good to work with too as whilst it is very dense and heavy, all the grain and insect patterns give a really unique and interesting finish.

Got back into box making with this little beauty inspired by Pedulla Studios. A little different to a traditional jewelry box, with curved sides, a single drawer and a copper inlay & solid handle. Really smooth and nice to touch, with such beautiful colour and tone.

Made from Tasmanian Blackwood and Oak, finished with Whittlewax.

I've been experimenting with some new plywood patterns and I think they've turned out really nicely. It's amazing all the different shapes and looks that can be created out of normal (boring) plywood. This little lot are simple drinks coasters for friends, but you could apply the same technique and patterns to create panels, veneers or inlays.

All done with 18mm Baltic birch plywood and finished with Whittlewax.

Built something a little bigger this time - a custom blanket box with a patterned plywood lid. The box was constructed using a frame and panel shaker design in solid wood, with the patterned lid adding a great visual contrast and interest. The lid really took the design to the next level and was a really fun build.

Made in Tasmanian Oak, with Baltic birch, Myrtle and white oak in the lid.
