Employers, mark down July 14 in your calendars.

That’s when Single Touch Payroll (STP) data needs to be finalised.

The sooner you do, the sooner your staff can lodge their tax return.

Some withholding schedules and tax tables have been updated. The changes apply from 1 July 2025.

If you employ staff, take note of the changes. Make sure you know how much you need to withhold from the payments you make to your employees and other workers.

If you travel for work and get paid a travel allowance, you might not need to keep detailed records of your expenses – but only if certain conditions are met.

Even then, we may still check your tax return and ask you to show:

🚘 you spent the money yourself and were not reimbursed – a bank statement will help
✈️ you incurred the costs as part of your work duties – not a holiday
🚌 how you worked out your deduction – like a travel diary
✅ you correctly declared your allowance as income in your tax return.
