We love it when our clients are so happy they want to tell us in writing. Grace and Patrick wanted us to take care of everything including trades. It was a little bit of a tricky install being down the coast, but that's what we specialise in. Briefs where the client wants something different. Briefs where the clients wants us to go the extra mile. Grace and Patrick had talked to others, as many of our clients have. But they came to us because we could combine quality, sustainable materials with the skill and experience to design for them as people and their lifestyle and then put it all together for them. It was a pleasure Grace and Patrick, thank you.

At first glance this looks like a box of junk. A second glance shows they are piano keys. And another glance up close; shows the little black keys are actually ebony. Ebony is an endangered timber and we would not buy it new as it is often illegally logged. But we were gifted this box of piano keys. Once upon a time, Gino had a conversation about old pianos and piano keys. So if you ever have an old piano that is no longer viable, be sure to salvage the black timber keys. That black timber, if its solid, is likely ebony. Ebony is naturally black. So please salvage those black piano keys. Gino is now contemplating what he can do with the ebony. He'll think about it for a while and at some point, he'll decide what to do with it. The keys don't add up to a lot of timber, but Gino will find a way to give them a new life. Please think twice before you simply dump an old timber piano; the keys may be salvageable.

Just a little entry unit. Looks simple enough doesn't it? Simplicity can be deceiving. We'll reveal more soon.

Hi, I’m Robyn. Otherwise known as Robyn from Select Custom Joinery or ‘Gino’s wife’. I often get asked “Do you work in the workshop?” Noone wants me in the workshop!

Gino has always been the Master in the workshop and I don’t need to be in the workshop with him too.

And here I am…in the workshop holding a box…that I made. Yep! I made it! It even looks pretty good, like I know what I’m doing. If I do say so myself.

Why am I getting in the workshop now? Because Gino has decided it’s time to start teaching the joy of woodworking to those of us who don’t want to learn the trade.

The reality is, it takes time and skill to get a good result. After all, if it was easy everyone would be doing it.

Gino has been working with timber for nearly 40 years now, so his standards are high.

And he’s creating processes so even someone like me, can build a box in a day, and get a good result (ok, Gino stepped in a couple of times to ‘help’ me, but I did most of it!).

In one day, you’ll build a box and you’ll get to:
• choose your timbers.
• choose your design (within parameters).
• play with some hand tools – I see you hand plane and
• play with some of the machinery – panel saw here we come!

But…..we need to do it safely, so Gino will be with you every step of the way to ensure you can be on the machines safely and take home a really good project at the end of the day.

First class is Make a Box in a Day and the date will be coming out shortly. And yes, you really will build your box in a day.

This is for you if:
✅You’re a beginner and you’d you’d love to play with timber AND complete a project in a day.
✅You want to have a fun experience and try new things.

This is not for you if:
❌You want to design your own project.
❌You want to learn the ins and outs of hand tools and workshop machinery.

This is an introductory workshop for people who want to have some fun in a workshop, Build a Box in a Day and then go and brag to everyone about how you built a great box and you’re a woodworker now. 😊

Gino’s doing some fine tuning of processes and is aiming to have the first class ready for July.

Comment Box if you’d like to be put on a waitlist.

Whoever said books would go out of fashion when e-readers came about.....was wrong. Our clients love the physicality of holding a book and want to ensure their books are supported properly, for the long term. These are simple jarrah bookshelves with brass pins and bushes. Designed to hold books, books and more books. Solid. Durable. Supportive. Beautiful.

Found this door in the archives as Gino and I (Robyn) were going through door photos to send to a client. Doors can have such character. Doors, particularly internal doors are an after thought. A cheap standard door is put in place because a door is just a means to get into the next room, right? It can also be a piece of art in itself. Gino describes it as functional art. Everything we do has to function well as our first priority and making it beautiful to look at, we love to do that too. Timber has its own natural beauty which is why we like to enhance the beauty, not disguise it.

A phone call from a returning client wanting more work done is something we cherish. And we are grateful to have received quite a few of them over the years. We were impressed when this client was so sure about the year when we did the work. For good reason....she had a copy of plans we faxed over in 2004! 😂 Remember when faxing was a thing......how times have changed. These days, we're able to email over plans that include 3D modelling in colour. It really helps to be able to visualise what the job will look like when it's installed. Our processes have changed over 26 years and that's a good thing!
