To the Residents of Gembrook and Surrounds:
Gembrook is privileged to have in its town, a state-of-the-art Community Centre. While this Centre is Council owned, it is run by a dedicated volunteer committee made up of local residents who are responsible for the day to day management. They are responsible for all bookings, fee setting, and general maintenance of fixtures.
This may include meeting with potential hirers, liaising with regular users (of which there are many) or undertaking minor maintenance issues as they arise as well as liaising with Cardinia Council representatives for more major initiatives.
The Committee of Management has a very positive working relationship with Council that has been built up over the years. It has also been responsible for major improvements within the Centre to benefit all users such as , recently, the purchase of new chairs, installation of free wi-fi throughout the Centre as well as planning for the whole of the Centre to go solar (with the help of Council grants) -there is a continuous progressive model to improve the facilities to maintain a reputation of excellence throughout the hills area. The Centre is a very popular destination for many large events (weddings, engagements, anniversaries, etc) which also brings many people into the town area. It is also a busy hub and resource for many local Community Groups with the facilities being used by more than one group every day.
The call is out to you, the residents, to become actively involved in the running of your Community Centre. The current booking officer has, after nearly 10 years, decided to move on and this only leaves 4 active members of the Committee. Meetings are held monthly where any major issues are discussed as well as there being a good network of communication via email and phone. The tasks needed doing are not onerous or time consuming if spread across the Committee, but we desperately need more people. Considering that 5 years ago the Committee had 9 members, now so much more is being done by fewer.
If you can assist in any way, feel that this could be something that would interest you to become involved in or would like to know more, please feel free to contact us via our web page (https://www.gembrookcommunitycentre.com.au/contact_us), through email ([email protected]) or via phone on 0417 740 409. We would love to answer your questions.
You can also drop into our meetings on the 1st Monday of the month at the Centre starting at 7:30 pm.
We would love to hear from you!
