Hi, I'm Alison, owner of The Little French Provincial Shop and creator of Artisan Paints. My passion is for recreating beauty in time-worn vintage and antique furniture. With a little love, these beautifully made antiques, can be restyled to bring a touch of elegance into your home. I sell hand painted furniture, French styled decor items, and Artisan Paint at our store in Dirty Janes Canberra. I also run painting workshops to help you transform your furniture into pieces you love!

It will be a big weekend here… and a very full one.
We will spend the next few days getting our new shop space ready. Moving, lifting, rearranging, second guessing… and then stepping back and starting again.
There’s something exciting about a blank space.
So much potential — but also a lot of work to bring it to life properly.
This one feels different.
More intentional.
More aligned with where we’re heading.
We’re not quite there yet… but it’s starting to take shape, and I can already see what it’s going to become.
At the same time, we’re in the final weeks at Dirty Janes Canberra.
So if you’ve been meaning to pop in… now is the time.
We’re clearing everything (except paint) at 40% OFF — furniture, décor, the pieces that have been part of the space for a long time.
It’s a bit bittersweet, if I’m honest.
But also the right move.
Out with the old… making room for what’s next.
If you’re nearby this weekend, come and see us before we close that chapter.
Alison 🤍

I'm getting ready for two of our favourite workshops this weekend! On Saturday morning we have our beautiful rust workshop where you will create two very different looks both perfect for your autumn garden! Then in the afternoon I am stepping attendees through making their own vintage style mirror using reverse decoupage, aging techniques and a few other little tricks! I still have a few spots available and would love you to join me in the studio! You can book in to either workshop here https://www.thelittlefrenchprovincialshop.com.au/shop/category/workshops/half-day-workshops/12398

Autumn workshops are now open… 🤍

This is one of my favourite seasons to teach — the pace is softer, the studio feels warm and welcoming, and there’s something so special about gathering around creativity at this time of year.

We have a beautiful lineup scheduled, including:
– Chalk Finish Workshops (full day, fully catered)
– Mineral Paint Workshops (perfect for beginners)
– Rust Finish Workshop — Saturday 11 April, 9–12
– And more techniques designed to build confidence and elevate your finish

All workshops are held in our Gundaroo studio, with everything provided 🤍
(Full day workshops include lunch + morning tea)

Whether you’re just starting or looking to refine your skills, these workshops are designed to give you real understanding — not just a painted piece, but the knowledge behind it.

Spots are intentionally limited to keep the experience personal.

There’s something about this time of year…

The air softens, the light shifts, and home becomes the place we naturally retreat to. It’s the season where we slow down, create, and reconnect — with our spaces, and with ourselves.

Our latest TLFPS newsletter has just gone out, and it’s one I’ve been especially excited to share 🤍

Inside, you’ll find:
– Our full Autumn workshop release (some beautiful new additions)
– A special Rust Workshop date just announced
– And a little glimpse into something new we’ve been quietly working on…

If you’ve been craving a creative reset, or simply a day to immerse yourself in something beautiful — this is your season.

If you’re not already on the list, you can join us here
https://www.thelittlefrenchprovincialshop.com.au/contact

and I’ll send it straight to your inbox.

Tell me… are you feeling the pull to nest at the moment too? 🍂

New workshop dates are now open 🤍

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately…

Everything just feels a bit expensive at the moment.
Groceries, fuel, all of it.

And it can make you feel like creating a beautiful home has to wait.

But I don’t actually think that’s true.

Some of the loveliest homes I walk into…
aren’t filled with new things.
They’re filled with pieces that have been thought about… softened… transformed.

And sometimes, what we really need isn’t more “stuff”…
it’s a little time to ourselves.

A day to switch off.
To learn something new.
To do something with your hands that feels calm and satisfying.

That’s exactly what our workshops are.

They’re not rushed.
They’re not overwhelming.
And you’re not expected to know anything before you arrive.

We take it step by step — properly.

So you understand:
• how to prep (this is where most people go wrong)
• how to apply paint so it actually looks smooth and refined
• when to seal and what to use
• how to avoid things like bleed-through and lacing
• and how to finish a piece so it feels considered, not “DIY”

And the best part…
you leave knowing you can go home and transform what you already own.

No big spend.
Just a shift in how your home feels.

We keep the groups small,
we provide everything you need,
and yes… there’s a lovely morning tea and gourmet lunch as well 🤍

If you’ve been thinking about it for a while… this is your sign. Spots are limited (they always fill quietly in the background),
so if you’re thinking about it… don’t leave it too long.

Oh this one… 🤍
She’s just arrived at Dirty Janes Canberra and she is all depth, detail and old-world presence.
This solid carved timber settle has the most incredible hand-carved detailing across the back and base. The kind of carving you just don’t see in modern pieces. It has weight. It has history. It has that beautiful, grounded feel that instantly makes a space feel layered and collected.
I haven’t overworked her. The timber has been carefully refreshed and nourished so the carving does the talking. You don’t need much styling with a piece like this. A throw, a few old books, maybe a candle… and the whole corner changes.
She would be stunning in an entry, at the end of a bed, in a sitting room or even against a moody wall where those carvings really come alive.
This isn’t a decorative replica. It’s solid. Substantial. Proper furniture.
Now in store at Dirty Janes Canberra and ready for her next chapter.
If you’ve been waiting for something with genuine character and presence, she’s there.

She’s just made her way into Dirty Janes Canberra… and I have to say, I’m a little bit in love with this one.
This solid timber chest has been gently refreshed in a soft, earthy olive green that feels calm and grounding without being heavy. The timber top has been left warm and natural, which gives it that beautiful contrast and keeps it feeling timeless rather than trendy.
There’s something about pieces like this. They don’t scream for attention, but they completely change the feel of a room once they’re in it.
Three generous drawers for practical storage, lovely weight to the timber, and those classic handles that give just the right amount of old-world character.
I can see this in a bedroom, guest room, hallway… even styled under a mirror in a sitting space.
She’s now in store at Dirty Janes Canberra and ready for her next home.
If you’re local and have been waiting for something with warmth and presence, this might be your piece.
