Hi all, Introducing Great Lakes Reimagined Furniture! My name is Andrea and I’m a furniture refinisher passionate about keeping beautifully made solid timber furniture out of landfill.

Unfortunately, over time, old finishes and the natural tannins in timber can turn the centerpiece of a room into the ‘orange elephant’ in the room. And since there’s not a lot that goes with orange furniture, those beautiful pieces are kicked to the curb for something slightly more modern and a lot less orange.

But… They don’t have to be!

I can transform your tired, outdated, scratched, and discoloured furniture into stylish on-trend pieces designed specifically to suit your space. Simply send me a picture of the piece you have, the dimensions and a picture of how you would like it to look, and I will send you a quote. Or I can come to you for a free in-home quote.

If you’re looking to add something new to your collection, check out the pics below for my newly finished peices. If I don’t have what you’re looking for, message me the details plus a picture and I’ll do my best to source it for you.

All my paints and stains are water base, ecofriendly Australian owned and made
mineral furniture paint. This means beautiful colours that don't yellow and discolour over time with incredibly durable finishes. I use the latest surface preparation methods and professional spray-painting equipment and techniques, leaving your furniture with a flawless showroom finish.

Pick-up and delivery of furniture between Green Point & Tuncurry is free, outside of these areas is a very modest charge so please message me for a quote.

So here she is... This 2.4m ex Tafe table (saved from going to the tip) was bought to me in a horse float 🐎 and as you can see in the pics it saw plenty of action back in its day 😆

First step was to fix the separation at the ends and remove all the chewing gum... special mention to Cravo and/or Rizza's chewing gum that literally took timber with it when I pried it off 😳 !?!?

Next step was to give it a goooood scrub then bust out the belt sander. I tentatively started with 60 grit but in less than a minute I was reaching for the 36 grit as the beautiful Tasmanian Oak hardwood timber revealed its self 😍😍😍. It took more than 2 hours non-stop on the belt sander with 36 grit to get rid of all the deep gouges, scratch marks and pencil stab holes... I feel like Karma caught up with me a little bit here 😜 I could have been guilty of a scratch or 2 and pushing the odd pencil into the table (to see how far it would go before it snapped off of course 😂

I worked through subseqent grits 60, 80, 120 on the belt sander then moved on to the random orbital sander with 180 and 240 then finished it off by hand using 360 grit... hours and hours of sanding (hardwood is a killer) 🥵 but wow what a beauty 💖 and at the end of each day when I took off my dust mask, the smell of this was to die for 🤤🧘🏼‍♀️

Next was the staining process. My client had dropped off 1 of the chairs that was to go with this table and asked me to match them as best I could.
The problem was the chairs were made of mango wood 🤦🏼‍♀️ a very light coloured timber similar to pine. I now had to make hardwood look like pine 😭 it took a week between other jobs playing around with custom stains and layering them to get a similar look to the chairs but I was determined to keep and respect the beauty and depth of this beautiful Aussie native hardwood so i didnt rush it. Big hugs to my little man Ollie for helping me out with the staining 🥰

I used a paint-wash of Flip Paints Daintree (mustard green) to neutralise the red tones in the timber then mixed a custom stain using Flip Paints black stain and Dulux Meerkat paint-wash to bring it all together and highlight the grain in the timber similar to the chairs.

To seal, protect and condition the timber I applied 2 coats of OSMO Poly-X Hardwax oil (Matt) 👌🏻

Thank you Sue for trusting me with this beautiful table. I loved working on it and can't wait to see how your next one comes up 💕

Checkout these gorgeous coastal bedside tables I sold at the markets last weekend. Congratulations again Linda 💙

As you can see from the before pics there has been a fair bit done on these. Some pieces need a little more TLC than others of course so...

I started by modifying the front legs to give them more modern look and switched one of the doors around so they were no longer both opening the same way.

The base of the cabinets were damaged and sagging so I replaced them with 7mm ply, gave them a very light white-wash and sealed them to match the drawer fronts which were also sanded back to raw timber white-washed then sealed with Flip Paints 'Satin Finish'.

The body was undercoated in Flip 'Stick' and top coats done in Flip Paints mineral furniture paint 'Snowy River'.

To finish them off and get the look I was after I made the handles out of 8mm sizel rope 💖

Wow what a busy week!! It all started last weekend with my first ever market stall at the Forster Town Markets. I had so much fun meeting and chatting with everyone who was kind enough to stop and have a look at my pieces. Thank you all so much for making me feel so welcome and for all the positive feedback. A big congratulations to Lisa on your new coastal bedside tables, hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed doing them up. I will post before and after shots shortly.
7am Monday morning and down the driveway comes a horse float 🐎 with a 2.5m dining table in the back. 😳 Stay tuned for before & progress shots...

Stunning Queen Anne Dresser and Bedside tables returned to their former glory with Australian made Flip Paints Mineral paints - Snowy River. Drawer bases were a mess so removed what was left of them and replaced with new timber. Hardware is elegant mid century Turner handles stripped and resprayed.

This solid timber coffee table was another in the last council cleanup.
Scroll to see before shot.
Sadly it wasn't a rare find as I have 3 more in the shed 😳 sooo much waste. It just goes to show what a little elbow grease and a modern lick of paint can do.

Top sanded back to Raw Timber, white washed and topcoated for a durable finish. The bottom and legs cleaned, scuffed and painted in gumleaf (hands down my favourite colour in the range at the moment😍)
