Not the most common question, but sometimes people ask me where I source my books. That's the first thing I asked when in 2003 I walked into a second-hand bookshop in Waikiki (now extinct) and said, 'I love books. Can you give me a job?' My boss at first said that if he told me, he would have to kill me. Instead, he taught me everything there was to know about the business. A few months later, he told me I was now better than him at it, so he started going away on holidays with his family while I ran the business. That's how it all began. What matters the most is not knowing where to find books but knowing the books. I found this copy of Stephen King's Fairy Tale at an opshop in the children's books section, and I'm still chuckling.
