The Music Shack

The Music Shack The Music Shack aims to promote quality music in a friendly environment for the local community in Argyle, Donnybrook WA. Contact us at: [email protected]

We aim to have regular concerts that bring you quality artists in jazz, folk & blues. We try to have 3 outdoor concerts during the summer months and sometimes an indoor one during the year when the weather's cooler. Our audiences bring their own chairs, drinks and something to eat and, as the audience is limited to 100, it's always a friendly intimate type of show - nice and close to the performer

s. The stage is in a forest setting and seating is on a grassed area. Hot drinks and supper are provided during interval.

Well, that's the summer season finished at the Music Shack and what a grand gig to finish with. Eric Bogle was here for his third visit and he was just as good as ever - possibly better than ever. He was accompanied by two great musicians in Pete Tichener and Emma Luker.

We greatly missed John Munro who has accompanied Eric for over 40 years but who passed away last May. Pete and Emma did a marvelous job filling in John's great harmonies and they were great - but we still miss John of course.

I didn't take any photos during the evening so have included a selfie taken the next morning before the gang left for Perth.

I did however, set my camera video on auto and captured a couple of video clips. Emma has written a fiddle part and joined with Eric's song in a beautiful song in John's memory - I'm not certain of the correct name but I've called it For John. I've posted it on Youtube and you can see and hear it on this link.

We had a capacity crowd the I think everyone very much enjoyed the lovely evening. Even the weather was kind to us after several days of continuous rain. Our thanks to the great and happy crowd of regulars and a number of newcomers - it has been a good season.

It's not long now till 10th March when the wonderful Eric Bogle will be back at the Music Shack for another fantastic concert. To have such a significant singer and songwriter here is a great pleasure for us - we've been fans of his for over 40 years and he's still a brilliant performer. It will be an entertaining evening for sure.

We were very sad when we learnt that his amazing support singer and instrumentalist of over 40 years, John Munro, had passed away last May. This is Eric's first tour to the west since then but he will be accompanied by two very seasoned support muso's - Pete Tichener on guitar and vocals who was here last visit, and Emma Woolcock on fiddle and vocals.

Eric will appear at other venues in WA of course, but here at the Music Shack you have the opportunity to rub shoulders and chat with these great performers - it's pretty good.

There's a few seats left - you can obtain tickets via email to: [email protected]

Beautifully Mad gave us their best last Saturday and their best is very, very good - it was a memorable show and the good crowd loved them.

Nina Vox and Tony King are a dynamic duo that sing and play a wide range of music - all fantastic.

Wherever you are, if you haven't seen Beautifully Mad, find out where they are - they're worth seeing. Another good alternative is to buy their albums - available on line.

My favourites were Diamonds on the soles of her shoes - and of course, Vincent. Both amazing versions.

Less than two weeks to go before our evening with Beautifully Mad on Saturday 19th January.

We're looking forward to another night of fun and laughter as these two brilliant musicians share their songs and music with us.

Last time Tony and Krys came we had a sell-out crowd and more favourable comments sent to us than any other concert - that speaks for itself, it will be a great night.

There are still seats available but tickets must be pre-purchased - there will be no gate sales.

For tickets. send an email to [email protected] or phone Vince or Judy on 9731 2004.

Emily Barker and Lukas dropped in today on their way through to Bunbury for tonight's gig. They will be with us tomorrow night and it's going to be a great show. Lukas will be playing our son Damian's double-bass. It's a bit hard to carry a double-bass around when you're touring - it's not quite so bad with a guitar.

We're looking forward to the gig on Sunday night - 25th November - that's tomorrow at the moment 🤔

There's room for a few more but it's getting full. Most of the gang arrive soon after 6.00 for a bit of friendly get-together, why not join us.

Give us a ring on 9731 2004 for tickets. No gate sales - sorry.

Only two weeks to go before the lovely Emily Barker returns to the Music Shack. This time accompanied by double-bass player Lukas, it's going to be a great show - at the Music Shack, Sunday 25th November 2018/

Early this year Emily was awarded the Artist of the Year for the UK Americana Awards – it has a huge following in the UK. The Americana genre draws on country, roots-rock, folk, gospel and bluegrass to become a style of its own – whatever, we like it.

Tickets only $25 and are still available but must be purchased before the show - no door sales.

We had a very enjoyable evening last week with Gallie and Paddy performing in the lounge. Gallie performs mostly his own works and he has written some great songs. He is ably backed by the guitarist and vocalist Paddy Montgomery. They arrived from Melbourne on Wednesday morning and performed here that night.

It was a full house and we are sorry to those folk who were unable to procure seats - when the lounge is full, that's the limit.

We have three more concerts coming up during summer and we'll tell you more about them in our newsletters to our mailing list.

We had a really enjoyable concert with Simon & Tammy London from Torbay on Friday evening the 10th March. It got very cold when the sea breeze settled in but we rugged up and survived a good night. Here the early arrivals were settling in to picnics and some pre-show conviviality and the other shot is my attempt at the difficult task of capturing the tree-lighting contrasting the bright lights of the stage. (Needs to be viewed on full screen.)

Hercules always loves the Music Shack shows - sometimes the kids feed him but he likes the music too. He even likes to help and this is him helping Judy get the stage lights ready for Friday night when Simon and Tammy London will be here. The weather looks promising and we know the music will be great - it's looking like another enjoyable night and we're looking forward to it.

A wonderful night at the old Thomson Brook church on Sunday 15th January with Beautifully Mad - Kris Ralph and Tony King. The church was full and we all had a barbecue outside before the concert began.

It was nice to see John Thomson in attendance. John is the grandson of the original landowners who donated the land and paid for the church back in 1909. Also there were Sue and Ian who were married in the church.

It was a generous gesture on the part of the new owner, David Lonsdale of Lonsdale Party Hire in Bunbury. It's nice to see the church being preserved and again providing community activity.

Some people travelled a long way for the event but the bulk of the crowd were very regular Music Shack fans and it was great to see you all.

The little church is all ready to roll for the concert tonight. The weather should be great for the barbie before the 7.30 show.
It's a full house and it looks like a great night with Beautifully Mad.
We're looking forward to it :)

I've been a bit slack keeping FB up to date but I'll blame Christmas and NY etc - we've been having too much of a good time.

We advertised on rather short notice that we're co-operating with David Lonsdale of Lonsdale Party Hire to have a great gig in the old Thomson Brook Church. David purchased the old church and talked to us about the potential. We loved the idea and a great group, Beautifully Mad, happened to approach us at the same time.

It's all come together for a great evening at the Church, about 15km from Donnybrook on Sunday 15th January and Beautifully Mad will be the stars. Google them to see some of their Youtube clips. They are both highly talented muso's with Gold and Platinum labels to their name, not to mention an ARIA Songwriter of the Year Award.

Unfortunately for some, the show is completely sold out - you need to book early if we have indoor gigs as seating is limited.

Beautifully Mad are also appearing at Cape Lodge, Yallingup, on Thursday 12th January. If you're interested in that show (and we're happy to recommend it), flick us a pm or email us at: [email protected]
