The Wyelangta Arm Chair - Mark II
As many of you might know, the Blackwood I use for my furniture comes from the Otway Ranges.
Harvested from state land which was previously cleared farmland.
The trees we select and fell, are between 60-80 years old and grew after farmers moved on from the land they cleared for cattle and rural use.
This timber is very special to me and those who recognise it.
Blackwood is a renowned premium furniture timber, and I am lucky enough to have the access to it as a resource for modern fine furniture.
The colours and density can vary alot between the tree's and side of the Otway ridge they grew on.
The timber I harvest come from previously harvested & naturally fallen blackwood tree's. The only thing taken into the VicForests managed coup is a chainsaw and pillow. All of the timber cut up is carried out in billets and resawn at the workshop to be air dried /kiln dried for fine furniture.
I try to make the absolute most use of the timber I get access to, trying to find the right grain direction for each component.
Those who know timber, know that I have to wait a long time before the timber is usable, most times years before the timber has been seasoned and dried correctly. This Arm Chair was made from a slab of Blackwood I cut and carried out in 2018.
This chair has come out quite nice, but as my own critic, there is alot to be changed before launching as an accurately producable product for Wood And Wedge.
It was fun learning how to sew to form the Linen cushions together for the loose upholstery.
