In 1926 Lynnwood Lawrence Gill founded Gill & Co Timber Merchants in Brisbane's iconic Queen Street and one of Queensland's most respected family businesses was born. The business was thriving and in 1935 Lynnwood purchased a sawmill in Roseberry, just north of Kyogle in Northern NSW. The war years were spent producing timbers for various Government departments because at the time private individu
als were not permitted by law to purchase it. His son John took over in the mid 1950's which saw the business expand and grow even further. The advertising jingle "John Gill The Timber Man!" came to fruition and is widely known across South East Queensland. Today, after more than 96 years, Lynnwood Gill’s founding principal of ‘specialist advice at a competitive price’ still lives on with his grandson David Gill, his wife Rebecca and their team of experienced staff at Gill & Co Timber Merchants located in Cleveland on the beautiful Redlands Coast in Brisbane.
