Lol Rotary Dial 😬

Peter Ferrigno posted a photo in Vintage & Retro Australia; “Hang on I just gotta call Mum - let it ring twice - and then hang up - and then she knows to come pick me up at the train station" (Oh, we knew how to beat the system!!).
Before mobile phones there was no direct link to home, so most families had a strategy to use the public phone at the train station or near the bus stop. As Peter says, lift the receiver, dial home, Mum was waiting, let it ring twice and quickly hang up and Mum would know you were waiting to be picked up. Some kids even worked out how to get the occasional free call too.
