Social media has a wild way of nibbling at your soul until suddenly you realise it’s taken a whole bite.

As someone with 20 years of experience as a midwife, child & family health nurse, paediatric sleep expert, and mum to 6, I know I have so much to offer families; real support, real guidance, and sleep for bubs everywhere.

But trying to pour that goodness into a platform ruled by an algorithm that no one understands… trying to make my array of posts pretty enough and actually successfully reflect the quality of my work… it’s exhausting in a way that doesn’t help anyone.

So for now, I’m putting social media down. Not forever, not dramatically… just intentionally. Because the energy I put into my business is better spent helping tired parents, not fighting a system that buries half my posts before they even breathe.

Instead, I’m building something better. Something calmer. Something actually useful.

I’m creating a free community for tired parents over on Skool — a space where you’ll get:

💟 Short, practical courses you can complete in the tiny pockets of your day
💟 Supportive conversations with other parents who truly get it
💟 Direct access to me without the noise or pressure of the algorithm
💟 Evidence-based sleep guidance grounded in two decades of hands-on experience
💟 My first mini-course: Newborn Sleep Foundations - completely free

If you’re tired, overwhelmed, or just craving a space that feels like a deep exhale, come join us.

I’m excited to build something real with you. Something away from the chaos and closer to what matters. 💟 See you in there! Jen xx

Swaddling is one of those tiny newborn rituals that has always brought big comfort in our house. 🏡

Swaddling helps calm the startle reflex, supports longer stretches of sleep, and gives babies that warm, womb‑like security they love. 🥰

When your little one starts showing signs of rolling, it’s time to transition out (usually around 3 months). Try one arm out, then both, and move into a cozy sleep sack when they’re ready. 😴

Small steps, gentle changes, and lots of cuddles along the way. 🫶🏼

Our kids need periods of quiet to develop well. Babies and young toddlers don’t need any screen time. You are your baby’s best toy — talk, sing, read and play with your little one instead of using screen-related entertainment. Your love, attention and interaction is exactly what they need most. ♥️♥️♥️

Many homes keep a screen or music playing in the background all day. It can feel harmless because nobody is actively watching. Yet constant noise gives the brain very few chances to experience quiet and recover from ongoing stimulation.

Silence is not empty for the brain. Quiet moments help attention reset, thoughts organize, and emotions settle. They also train the mind to ignore distractions. Without enough quiet time, filtering sounds and staying focused can become harder over time.

Background audio keeps part of the brain alert. Even when ignored, changing voices, beats, and sudden sounds can pull attention in small ways. These repeated interruptions may create restlessness, shorter focus, and a constant need for fresh stimulation during tasks.

Children can be especially sensitive because their attention systems are still developing. If noise is always present, deep play, reading, problem solving, and imagination may become more difficult. The mind learns to expect input instead of creating focus from within.

Parents can help by building quiet spaces into the day. Turn devices off when not needed, lower noise during play, and protect moments without media. Silence is not missing something. It is where attention, calm, and deeper thinking grow strongest.

So many parents tell me they’re looking for something gentle, natural, and nurturing to support their baby’s sleep. One of my favourite tools is baby massage. It’s simple, soothing, and backed by science.

This here is our youngest, who is now 5. He was (still is!) a little firecracker. Massage really helped him to release tension, feel secure, and settle more easily. It also gave us a beautiful way to connect at the end of a full-on day!

If you’re working on improving sleep, massage is a lovely place to start. Make sure your baby is not hungry or tired when you are planning to massage. Have everything ready to go and check it’s warm before you undress your baby. Use any gentle oil - coconut, grape seed or jojoba oil are all good options.

Chat to your baby and let them know what you are doing. Make lots of eye contact, watch your baby for feedback and enjoy the connection. ♥️

Toddler taming at bedtime isn’t about being strict—it’s about being consistent.

When little ones are overtired, overstimulated, or unsure of the boundaries, bedtime can quickly spiral into a battle.

Spot your toddlers tired signs (clumsiness, fussiness, whining, rubbing eyes and yawning) early and gently guide them into a calm and predictable wind-down.

In our house, its teeth, pjs, 2 books 1 song, I love you and goodnight.

Bedtime doesn’t need to feel like a showdown—it should be a moment of connection at the end of the day to help them feel regulated and ready to sleep.
