Thor's Hammer is a joinery, sawmill and recycled timber yard based at 10 Mildura St, Griffith (ACT). Thor’s Hammer builds to last, we believe in quality, in good design and taking care of the environment. Thor's Hammer has been operating for nearly 30 years and holds over 1,000 tonnes of recycled timber stock in 10+ species.

Meet Ulin, or Ironwood, one of the densest and most durable timbers in the world.

Reclaimed from old buildings, bridges and wharves in Indonesia, Ulin is exceptionally hardwearing, with a Janka rating of 13.3–16.4kN. That makes it denser than many of Australia's renowned hardwoods, including Ironbark.

Its natural termite resistance and Class 1 durability make it an outstanding choice for decking and other outdoor applications, where it can withstand decades of exposure to the elements.

We currently have recycled Ulin decking available in generous 145mm-wide boards and long lengths up to 4 metres, creating cleaner layouts with fewer joins and a striking finished result.

We rarely see reclaimed Teak in Australian salvage projects, which makes this shipment pretty special. In over 30 years, the only comparable load we’ve received came from the CSIRO Plant Science Labs workbenches.

Durable, stable and naturally water-resistant, Teak is one of the world’s most sought-after timbers. These recycled boards arrive in generous 145mm widths, nearly double the width of our standard remilled flooring.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the Wood be Good launch night at Thor’s Hammer

It was great to see so many people from across the design, building and maker community come together to celebrate the arrival of our reclaimed Indonesian hardwoods and join the conversation around responsible sourcing, recycled timber and the future of hardwood supply.

Our first shipment of reclaimed Teak and Ulin (Ironwood) has officially landed and we’re excited to finally share it with you. The Teak flooring arrived beautifully at 9–11% moisture content, ready for Australian conditions, while the Ulin decking features long, premium lengths up to 3.8m.

We recently collaborated with & .homeelevations on this beautifully renovated Chapman home, where recycled timber flows throughout every space, from the kitchen benchtops and island to the outdoor deck and custom joinery handcrafted by homeowner John.

Using recycled Blackbutt / Dense Browns, we manufactured the custom kitchen benchtops and waterfall island, while the same timber palette continues outdoors across the elevated deck installed by ACT Decks.

As a Forest Ecologist at ANU, John has a deep appreciation for recycled Australian hardwoods and salvaged much of the Canberra Local Ash used throughout the project himself, transforming it into windows, architraves, shelving, picture frames and a stunning floor-to-ceiling bookcase.

Projects like this are a reminder that recycled timber carries not only character and durability, but stories too.

Sustainable House Day is back this Sunday 17 May and this time featuring a stunning apartment, we we're lucky enough to drop by before the crowds.

Jenny Edwards’ “Shine Home” is a beautiful example of how recycled materials and thoughtful design choices can transform apartment living.

The interiors, developed by with colour design by Sonia from , feature Thor’s Hammer recycled Tallowwood flooring salvaged from the former Marsden High School in North Sydney, alongside recycled teak benchtops reclaimed from CSIRO.

We were proud to supply recycled timber to the Shine Home project and can’t wait to see it continue shining for years to come ✨
